JOELTON, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A fiery crash on Whites Creek Pike this morning has turned fatal, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. The crash involved a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle that reportedly collided either head-on or nearly head-on, triggering a diesel fuel spill and a large fire. According to officials, one person lost their life in the crash.  

Whites Creek Pike (431) remains shut down while the THP investigates the crash and crews work to clear the wreckage and address the diesel spill. LOCATION OF CRASH As of 12:30 PM, traffic was still being diverted. Drivers traveling in or out of Robertson County should avoid Whites Creek Pike/431 and seek alternate routes.

UPDATE: THP Releases Details on Fatal Crash on Whites Creek Pike

The Tennessee Highway Patrol has released preliminary details on the fatal crash that occurred Thursday morning on Whites Creek Pike.

According to the report, the crash occured near 8057 Whites Creek Pike in Joelton, Davidson County, the first call coming into 911 at 6:59 AM. According to the report, the crash involved three vehicles: a 2000 Freightliner semi-truck, a 2016 Kia Forte, and a 2022 Nissan Sentra.

The Freightliner, driven by 42-year-old Andres A. Encalada of Tennessee, was traveling northbound on Whites Creek Pike when it collided head-on with a southbound Kia Forte, driven by 65-year-old Michael A. Capps, of Tennessee. Capps sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Following the initial impact, the Freightliner struck a third vehicle, a Nissan Sentra driven by a 22-year-old female, also from Tennessee. She was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

The crash resulted in a diesel fuel spill and fire, and as of 2:00 PM Whites Creek Pike was still closed. Authorities have indicated that Encalada (the driver of the semi-truck) has not been charged but the investigation is ongoing.
