Young Students Learn The Value Of Handshakes And Eye Contact

WHITE HOUSE TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – On Wednesday, January 16th the White House Area Chamber of Commerce and individuals from the City of White House Police Department brought a little joy to the students of White House Middle School through their Handshakes and High Fives program.

This new program is part of the White House Chamber’s Education Initiative to instill soft skills and confidence in students. Studies show that people entering the workforce are lacking in some of the most basic skills – phone and interview etiquette, interpersonal communications like handshakes and eye contact. The goal is to expose students at a young age to engage with business professionals and community leaders to instill confidence and introduce some of these skills that are often taken for granted.

“A skilled, educated and engaged workforce are vital to the success of our member businesses and our community,” stated Mandy Christenson, White House Area Chamber of Commerce CEO. The Chamber plans to continue this program throughout the school year and will be introducing it in other White House elementary and middle schools this year as well. Next month members of the White House Fire Department will be joining the H&H Team.

“It’s a great way to introduce our business leaders to the fantastic youth in our community and the students benefit from the engagement,” said Christenson.

The Chamber will also be launching a student scholarship program and teacher grants in the near future. Funds raised from their annual Discover White House silent auction will be earmarked for the Education Initiative.
