John William Kelley
October 28, 1925 – August 23, 2025
John William Kelley, 99, of White House, TN went to be with the Lord on August 23rd, 2025. He was born October 28, 1925 to the late Thomas Everette Kelley and Mary Caldonia Jones Kelley.
He is preceded in death by the love of his life Viola Tate Kelley. They married on November 21, 1942 and she passed just shy of their 80th anniversary in 2022. He is also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rubye Kelley Vann; and daughter Debbie K. Henderson and son-in-law Cary Henderson.
He was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church and attended Walnut Grove United Methodist Church regularly until the last few years. He was proud to represent the Robertson County Eastern Dark Fired Tobacco Association as a director for many years. He also served as director on the Robertson County Farm Bureau board. One of his most proud accomplishments was being able to have his family’s farm registered as a Tennessee Century Farm in Robertson County.
He is survived by his son, Phillip (Diane) Kelley of White House, TN; granddaughters, Stacey (Russell) Stoddard of Springfield, TN and Tracey (Brad) Bertram of Glasgow, KY; three great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Rachel, and Ethan Bertram. He is also survived by many very special nieces and nephews and cousins.
Funeral Service is scheduled for August 27, 2025 in the chapel of Austin and Bell Funeral Home in White House, TN at 12 Noon. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery with Russel Stoddard, Brad Bertram, Ethan Bertram, Wes Crain, Steve Armstrong and Johnny Barry serving as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers are Ray Hester, Donnie Hester, Paul West, Buddy Bryant, Chuck Stout, Mark Lowe and Phillip Branch. Visitation is planned for Tuesday, August 26, 2025 2pm-8pm and Wednesday, August 27, 2025 10am until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Betty Jo Hartman
March 2, 1945 — August 15, 2025
Betty Jo Hartman, affectionately known as Jo, embarked on her final journey on August 15, 2025, in the vibrant warmth of Florida, leaving behind a legacy of adventure and laughter that will echo in the hearts of all who knew her. Born on March 2, 1945, in Goodlettsville, TN, she embraced life with an open heart, carving a path brimming with joy.
Jo is survived by loving husband of 51 years Glenn K. Hartman, her children Tammy (Scott) Nagel, Mike (Anita) Kerr, and Susan (Tommy) Stilwell. She is also survived by her grandchildren Ashley Lindeman, Dustin Scott, Mandlyn Kerr, Kaidyn Buxton, Devyn Kerr, Bailey Stilwell, and Briley Stilwell, and her great grandchildren Parker Lindeman, Tucker Lindeman, Sadie Lindeman, Peityn Bradford, Myrtn Skiner, and Emberlyn Buxton. Jo also leaves behind her siblings Cassie Birdwell, Maudie Hester, and James Paul. Although she is gone, her memory will forever reside within them.
Jo’s personality always shone brightly, characterized by her kindness and warmth, always making others feel welcome and at ease. With a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh, she had a unique ability to transform ordinary moments into cherished memories. She was a woman of boundless spirit. Outgoing and adventurous, she approached each day as a new opportunity to create lasting memories. She was called a world traveler and her passion for travel was a highlight of her life. She particularly enjoyed countless cruises with her beloved husband, Glenn. With the sea as her backdrop, she discovered the world, relishing in the beauty of new horizons. In sharing her love for travel, she inspired her daughter to experience the joy of cruising, creating a bond strengthened by exhilarating adventures on the open water.
For more than 30 years, Jo was a proud member of the Chapter K Golden Wings Touring Association. Riding motorcycles wasn’t just a pastime for her; it was a means of liberation, a way to escape the mundane realities of life, and to connect with the vast canvas of the United States. Each ride was a testament to her adventurous spirit and desire for exploration as she embraced the wind and the open road with infectious enthusiasm. At home, Jo found solace in reading, with People Magazine often gracing her coffee table, a reflection of her innate curiosity about the lives of others and the world beyond.
Jo’s battle with dementia was a long and arduous journey, but it did not dim her vibrant spirit or the love she showered upon her family and friends. Now, as we gather to celebrate her life, we remember the joy she brought to others and the indelible mark she left on those fortunate enough to share in her adventures.
A memorial gathering will be held in her honor on September 13, 2025, beginning at 10:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM, all taking place at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home and Cremation Services in White House, TN. As we bid farewell to our beloved Jo, let us continue to carry her adventurous spirit within us, cherishing the laughter and love she so freely shared.

Mark Lane McFarland
October 10, 1957 — August 18, 2025
Mark Lane McFarland, born on October 10, 1957, peacefully departed this life on August 18, 2025. A man in the world of carpentry, Mark devoted his entire career to this craft, showcasing his skills with a passion that left a lasting impact on those he worked alongside and the structures he helped create.
Mark was characterized by his outgoing nature; he genuinely never met a stranger. His warm spirit and friendly smile brought joy to many, creating connections that were often remembered fondly. People were drawn to his vivacious personality, and he had a unique ability to make anyone feel welcome and valued.
Passionate about the outdoors, Mark embraced nature with open arms. He enjoyed numerous activities such as arrowhead hunting, canoeing, and hunting, which allowed him to connect deeply with the environment around him. These hobbies not only highlighted his adventurous spirit but also enriched his life with experiences that he cherished.
Mark is survived by his beloved children, Jannelle McFarland and Braxton McFarland. He also leaves behind his siblings: Mike (Felicia) Hoffman, Doug Hoffman, Nancy Smith, Mary Allen, and Jo Ann Brown. A special friend with Luci Miller; and childhood friend, Steve Cravens.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mary McFarland, and his brothers David Hoffman, Randy Keesling, and Timothy Keesling, whose memories will forever be cherished by Mark’s family.
Mark Lane McFarland will be remembered for his unwavering kindness, his craftsmanship, and the love he shared with all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy lives on through his children and the countless lives he touched.

Barbara Ann Douglas
May 16, 1940 — August 23, 2025
Madison, TN
Barbara Ann Matthews Douglas, a beloved member of the Madison community, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on May 16, 1940, Barbara dedicated herself to her family, faith, and friends throughout her life. She is remembered for her happy disposition, big beautiful smile, and her caring nature that made her a cherished people person.
Barbara devoted 24 years of her career to serving as a Guidance Secretary for Metro Public Schools, positively impacting countless students and families through her work. Her legacy extends beyond her professional life into the hearts of her family, who remain her proudest accomplishment. Barbara, affectionately known as “MiMi,” found great joy in her role as a mother and grandmother, nurturing and inspiring her children and grandchildren alike.
A longtime member and longtime choir member of Parkway Baptist Church, Barbara exemplified her faith in her daily life and was known for her warmth and welcoming spirit. She had a passion for life and was always ready for an adventure, which endeared her to many.
Barbara is survived by her children, Kathye West, Tommy (Rhonda) Douglas, and Mike (Kelly) Douglas. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, Danny, Doug, Beth (James), Jordan (Zach), Aaron (Maggie), and Anna, as well as her great-grandchildren, Caleb, Addison, Brianna, Sarah, and Boston. Barbara is further survived by her siblings, Dixie Seagraves, Mickey (Shelia) Matthews, and Frankie (Sherry) Matthews, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins, all of whom will carry forward her memory and spirit.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donnie Douglas; her son, Butch Douglas; and her parents, Curtis and Frankie Matthews; and brother in law, Sonny Seagraves.
A visitation will be held at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Goodlettsville on August 26, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and will continue on August 27, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. A Celebration of Life will follow on August 27 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, also at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home, burial will take place at Good Springs Free Will Baptist Church in Pleasant View, TN.

Grace Henrietta (Cormack) Stiers
December 26, 1937 ~ August 21, 2025
87 Years Old
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Grace Henrietta Stiers, who departed this life on August 21, 2025, at the age of 87.
Born on December 26th, 1937, in Cincinnati, Ohio, she lived a life filled with faith, creativity, and adventure. A devoted member of her church, she shared her love of music by serving as Handbell Choir Director in several congregations in both Florida and Tennessee.
She had a passion for traveling across the country, having visited every state but Hawaii. She found joy in camping and experiencing the beauty of nature. Her artistic spirit was evident in every part of her life—she was gifted in nearly every craft, creating works that brought joy and inspiration to those around her.
Her warmth, generosity, and creativity touched the lives of her family, friends, and community. She will be remembered not only for her talents and dedication but also for the kindness and faith she lived out every day.
She is survived by her son Christopher Stiers (Nathalie), her daughter, Mimi Pfrogner (Colin) son-in-law, William Zito, her grandchildren Nicholas Stiers, Krista Stiers, Taylor (TK) Calibo, Claire Zito, Jaxon Pfrogner and Oliver Pfrogner. She also leaves behind her many beloved nephews and nieces, all of whom held a special place in her heart. She was preceded in death by her parents Elbert and Orpah Cormack, her husband Earl Stiers, her daughter Carol Zito, her sister Mildred Ratliff (Harry) and her brother Robert Cormack.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11 AM on Saturday September 6, 2025, at the Greenbrier United Methodist Church in Greenbrier, TN. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 9:30 AM till the time of service at 11 AM.
Her life was a beautiful reflection of her love for God, her family, her friends, and the world around her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

Kay Woodfin
August 15, 2025
Katherine “Kay” Shannon Woodfin, age 88, of Murfreesboro, TN, passed peacefully at home on Friday, August 15, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. A native of Greenbrier, TN, Kay was the daughter of the late Lena Margaret Cotton and James Stanley Shannon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, John Benton “Bubba” Woodfin, and sisters, Margaret Ann Hodges and Betty Shannon Cloyd.
She was a 1954 graduate of Greenbrier High School and attended Tennessee Tech and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in social work from Middle Tennessee State University in 1959. Kay was crowned Miss Murfreesboro in 1958. She met and married the love of her life on June 13, 1959, at Greenbrier United Methodist Church. Together, they shared many joyful years raising their four daughters at their cherished homes in Scottland Acres and on Clark Boulevard. Kay was a community leader and served as a member of Charity Circle in Murfreesboro, the Oakland Association, and Ascension St. Thomas Rutherford Foundation. Kay enjoyed volunteering with the Wesley Foundation and St. Jude Children’s Hospital. She was also an Elder at Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she sang beautifully in the choir for over 40 years. In recognition of their generous philanthropic contributions, Kay and Bubba were named the 2009 Heart Ball Honorees by the American Heart Association and the 2014 Ascension St. Thomas Rutherford Philanthropists of the Year.
Kay lived a full and gracious life, marked by elegance, warmth, and love. She lived the virtues of a woman as described in Proverbs 31: generous, compassionate, and strong. She was a natural-born athlete, having played basketball in high school as well as golf and tennis for many years. As the devoted matriarch of the Woodfin family, her greatest joys came from vacationing with Bubba and the girls and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whether tending her beautiful garden, hosting family and community gatherings, or singing along to country music played by her family, Kay’s legacy of hospitality, kindness, and charm will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughters; Shannon Parsons and her husband David, Katherine “Kit” Ramsay and her husband Chuck, Melissa Combs and her husband Ron, and Ashley Backer and her husband John. She is also survived by her brother, Pat Shannon and his wife Pati. Affectionately known as “KaKa,” Kay also leaves a legacy through her grandchildren, Kati Ramsay and her wife Katie, Charlie Ramsay and his wife Amanda, Hannah Margaret Allen and her husband Grant Schumacher, Grace Combs, Meg Combs, Ann Frances Killebrew and her husband Douglas, Katherine Backer, and Jack Backer; great grandchildren, Ramsay Kate, Oliver, Addison, Ella, Lucy, and Woodfin. She will also be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, dear friends, and caretakers.

Dr. John Hinkle officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery with family members and staff members of Woodfin Funeral Chapels serving as pallbearers.

Laura Ann Dodd

Laura Ann Dodd, age 91, formerly of Ridgetop, TN passed away Monday, August 18, 2025 at the Maple Cottages in Portland, TN. She was born December 9, 1933 in Stewart, TN to Calvin Nesbitt “Whitt: & Anne Lynch Phillips. She worked as a homemaker for most of her life, but had been employed in her younger years at Carrigan Iron Works.
She enjoyed sewing and flower gardening. She was a member of Ridgetop Baptist Church, where she had served as a Sunday School teacher and WMU Director. Laura also loved helping with the Open Door Crisis Pregnancy Center in Springfield.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bobby Gene Dodd; daughter, Bridget Pack; son, Dorian Dodd; brothers, Calvin Phillips and Eugene Phillips. She is survived by her daughter, Valli (Randall Tucker) Hester, Bethpage, TN; sisters, Kay Piermico and Bonnie Endres, both of Erin, TN, Gaynell Hester, Mount Washington, KY and Nancy Goodman, Hendersonville, TN; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Francis Sharon Holston

Francis “Sharon” Mitchell Holston, 76, loving wife of Dr. Robert George Holston Sr. passed into her final sunset on August 19, 2025 in Nashville, TN. A Celebration of Life will be at the Holston Family Clinic, Cross Plains, TN on Sunday, August 24, 2025 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm.
Sharon’s first Sunrise was on November 26, 1948 when she took her first breath with her parents Frank Knox Mitchell & Marjorie (Aaron) Mitchell in Rotan, Tx. She was raised with her younger sister Barbara Ann Mitchell Swan in Roby, TX. Sharon enjoyed her youth playing basketball & being a majorette for the Roby Lions. She graduated from Roby High School in 1967. She attended West Texas State University where she met the other half of her soul. Robert “Bob” Holston saw the prettiest legs he ever laid eyes on & they married August 9, 1968 in Roby, Tx.
Sharon had a glorious & amazing reunion Tuesday afternoon when she joined her loving parents, sister, brother n law, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins & nephew at the pearly gates.
Sharon leaves her greatest gifts of love to honor her life being her husband of 57 years Dr. Robert G. Holston; 4 children, Michelle Holston Tiernan and husband Tim Tiernan, Robert G. Holston Jr and wife Barri (Robison) Holston, Jeremy F. Holston and wife Ginda (West) Holston, Jennifer Holston Waid and husband Adam Waid, and nephew Richard Johnson. She was blessed to leave a legacy of 10 grandloves, Mitchell, Chelsea, Kanyon and Kalina Short, Barrett and Knox Holston, Tyler and Stella Holston, and Ryan and Mac Luckett. Billy Martin
February 26, 1971 – August 20, 2025
William “Billy” Anthony Martin, age 54 of Springfield, Tennessee passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at his home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 o’clock pm, Monday, August 25th, at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View with his sister, Rev. Jesse Fleck & Rev. Katie Woodard officiating. Timmy Long, Vince Warner, Brien Warren, John Brown, Donnie Hall, and James Sanders will serve as pallbearers and his remains will be cremated following the service.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, August 25th from 1:00PM until the hour of service at 4:00PM.
Billy was born on February 26, 1971 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late James Wilson Martin and Shirley Ann Martin. Billy was employed by C.O. Christians & Sons for over 25 years as an electrician. With great enthusiasm, he engaged in hunting and fishing. His love for riding his Harley motorcycle was evident. He also appreciated four-wheeling, riding side-by-sides, and camping. Cooking and grilling were his fortes, and he took pleasure in entertaining and feeding others. Distinctively, his kitchen included a Blackstone grill. He lived a rich, full life.
In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Rev. Jesse Willard Brown and Beatrice Brown: sister-in-law, Terri Martin; and his fur son, Brutus.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sons, Timmy (Emily) Long and Matt (Alisa) Jordan; daughter, Kerianne (fiance’, Vince Warner) Martin; brother, James Martin; sister, Rev. Jesse (Trevor) Fleck; and grandchildren, Hunter Long, Eli Long, and Maeve Jordan.

Patricia Ann Thoms, age 75 of White House passed away Thursday, August 21, 2025 at Charter Senior Living of White House. She was born March 27, 1950 in Marion, KY to Robert John & Gladys Juanita Walker Thoms. She worked as a seamstress and was a member of New Life Fellowship.
She enjoyed spending time on the beach and in the ocean, traveling, eating good food, vegetable and flower gardening, visiting the mountains and shopping. She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Linda Courtney; brother, Ted Thoms. She is survived by her sons, Brandon Perkins, White House, TN and Robert (Christine) Perkins, Chino, CA; daughter, April (Douglas) Zachary, White House, TN; 5 grandchildren, Sam, Justin, Emily, Stephen and Benjamin (Gracie).

Marie Williamson

Gladys Marie Williamson, age 89, of Pleasant View, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 o’clock pm, Tuesday, August 26th, at Mallory’s Cemetery in Chapmansboro with Bro. Gene Parton officiating.
Burial will follow with family & friends serving as pallbearers.
Mrs. Gladys was born on June 24, 1936, in Columbia, Tennessee, to the late Roscoe & Gladys Aldridge Jones. She was a homemaker and also worked in the cafeteria for the school system. She enjoyed gardening and cooking and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by all her siblings.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Charles Williamson; daughters, Sherrie (Jeff) Leopard and Phyllis (Tony) Pemberton; and grandchildren, Jeffrey Kyle Leopard, Karilynn Joy Leopard, and Elizabeth Christine Leopard.

Larry Dale Poole
September 11, 1952 – August 21, 2025
Larry Dale (Papoo) Poole, 72 of Cross Plains, TN passed away at his home on Thursday August, 21st, 2025. He was born on September 11th, 1952 in Dyersburg, TN to George M. and Aline C. Poole.
Visitation will be held on Monday 8/25/25 from 2pm-7pm and on Tuesday 8/26/25 from 11am-1pm with funeral to follow in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Thom Rawls and Jim Holzemer officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery with Michael Poole, Christopher Poole, William Poole, Dylan Goodwin, Daniel Goodwin and Dylan Pinkerton serving as pallbearers. Larry was employed for 38 years by the Metro Nashville Davidson County Fire Department, EMS Division. Over the years he held multiple positions, retiring as a Deputy Chief in 2013.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Laura D. Poole. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Diane Goodwin Poole, daughter Katherine Michelle (Kay-tee) Poole of Goodlettsville, Tn, Sons Andrew (Andy) Kaleb Poole of Hohenwald, TN, Joshua (Josh) Lee (Sharon) Poole of Springfield, TN, and Sister Lynne D. Poole of Goodlettsville, TN. Six grandchildren, Corynne A. Meadows, Michael L. Poole, Christopher A. Poole, William K. Poole, Lyndia D. Poole, Joshua Alan G. Poole. Best friend and fur baby Charlie.
He enjoyed several hobbies in his lifetime, including; Woodworking, Grilling and Cooking, Genealogy, Fine Cigars and Fine Whiskey, but most of all Aggravating the Grandkids.
