NASHVILLE — James Gary Batey, 81, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Skyline Medical Center.

Gary was born on November 9, 1944, to the late Howard and Peggy Batey of Ashland City.

Gary was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, Marcy. They were married for 45 years.

He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Rachel Wall, Jean Chamberlain, Paul Batey, Dudley Batey, Nancy Balthrop, Janice Batey, and Stanley Batey.

Gary is survived by his children, Brian Batey, Lynn Couts (Tommy), Gary Batey (Shawna), and Nolia Batey (Tim O’Dea). He had several grandchildren: Thomas Wyatt Couts, Brie Batey, Makayla Batey, and James Brandon Batey.

He is also survived by siblings Linda Ward and Sherry Clodfelter (Mike Reavis), along with Aunt Ruth Proctor, Uncle John Nicks, and Uncle Willard Nicks.

He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life is planned for the family on Saturday, February 14, 2026.

Odis Dormon Grubbs
January 26, 1928 — January 13, 2026
White House, TN

Odis Dormon Grubbs, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, was born on January 26, 1928, in Cottontown, TN, and departed this life on January 13, 2026, at the age of 97. He leaves behind shared memories of laughter and song.

Odis was known for his sociable personality, characterized by a firm handshake and a warm smile that could light up any room. With his charming personality, he spent several years as a diligent salesman at Sears, where he specialized in selling machinery, appliances, and tools. His commitment to his career was matched only by his dedication to his family: Dormon’s daughters and grandchildren grew up surrounded by the inviting sound of his music and piano, where they practiced songs.

A man of many talents, Dormon was not only skilled at the piano but also played the guitar, mandolin, and violin. Music was an integral part of his life; he enjoyed listening to bluegrass and church hymns, which reflected his deep-rooted faith as a church deacon. In his youth, he even had the honor of singing in a quartet. In his time away from music, he explored the great outdoors, often fishing, water skiing, golfing in the senior league, and camping alongside his grandchildren. He cherished these moments, creating lasting memories that will be fondly remembered by his family.

He is mourned by his children, Ellen Roberts and Mary Dillard. His grandchildren, Nina (Jon) Cavitt, Fabian (Elizabeth) Story, and Valerie Story, as well as his great-grandchildren, Fletcher, Sabrina, Thomas, and Landon.

He was predeceased by his cherished wife, whom he married on Valentines Day, Betty Sue Langford-Grubbs, his parents Charlie and Viva, his siblings Wilene, Laura Mizell, and Ellis, and his beloved grandchildren, Allison and Clint, as well as his two sons-in-law Harlie and Duane.

Friends and family will gather to celebrate Odis’ life with visitation at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home and Cremation Services in White House, TN, on January 18, 2026, from 5 PM to 8 PM, and again on January 19, 2026, from 11 AM to 12 PM. A funeral service will follow at 12 PM, with a burial to take place at Hillcrest Municipal Cemetery at 1 PM.

Odis Dormon Grubbs leaves behind a legacy of love, music, and cherished memories that will resonate through generations. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Donald Ray White
November 15, 1939 – January 16, 2026

Donald Ray White, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather passed away on January 16, 2026, at Alive Hospice of Nashville. Born on November 15, 1939, in Nashville, Tennessee, Donald’s journey through life was one marked by love, dedication, and a passion for craftsmanship.

Donald embarked on a career that began with an apprenticeship at a local printing company. Through hard work and determination, he rose to become a skilled photo engraver and ultimately a salesman for KONICA. His professional life spanned many years, and he continued to serve with dedication until his retirement in 2005. Those who crossed paths with him in the industry will remember not just his expertise but the warmth of his engaging personality, a blend of laid-back charm and spirited conversation.

Beyond his career, Donald was a man of many interests. He possessed a profound appreciation for history. In his later years, he found joy in watching films and television, particularly Westerns featuring the legendary John Wayne. His enthusiasm for mowing left him to spend ample time with his tractor.

Donald’s heart swelled with pride for his family, whom he loved dearly. He often spoke of his wife with admiration, expressing his gratitude for her. His love for his daughters and family was like no other, and he often considered his family his greatest accomplishment.

He served honorably in the United States Air National Guard for six years, contributing to the freedom and safety of his fellow citizens. As a conversationalist, he engaged many with his opinions and insights, leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to engage with him. He was a man of Christian faith, leading him to become a greeter at the Long Hollow Church for over 20 years, always making strangers feel at home with a smile and a welcoming laugh.

Donald Ray is preceded in death by his parents Oscar Henry and Johnnie Mae White, sister Patricia Patterson and his grandson Matthew Parker Milliken. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years Florence “Flo” White, his daughters Marti Milliken, and Cindy Starr. He is also survived by his niece Jill (Steven) Brown and their children Hannah and Hadley, and his grandchildren Jordan (Quincey) Milliken, Derek Starr, Kristen (Josiah) Vega, Katie Starr, and great grandchildren West Milliken and Stella Milliken. Additionally, he will be deeply missed and cherished by his Crossville Family who loved him dearly.

To honor Donald’s memory, friends and family are invited to gather for visitation on January 23, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Goodlettsville, TN. This will be followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM, with a burial at Beech Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery, where he will rest peacefully.

Essie Sue (Finch) Hill

Essie Sue Hill was born on September 21, 1954, in Robertson County, Tennessee, to the late Mr. Willie Lee Finch and Georgia Helen Finch. From this union, nine children were born, five of whom preceded her in death.

Essie Sue Hill departed this life in the early morning hours of Saturday, January 17, 2026.

As the youngest of nine in a God-fearing family, Essie Sue was a devoted believer in Christ with a deep love for God’s Word. An avid reader and lifelong learner, she could finish books in hours and passionately studied Scripture, engaging thoughtfully and confidently in biblical discussion.

Essie Sue graduated from Springfield High School in 1972 as part of its first integrated class and went on to a successful career in retail management. Known for her strong work ethic and dependability, she had a natural ability to connect with people, earning the trust and respect of both customers and colleagues through her professionalism and genuine guidance.

Essie was affectionately known as “Sue.” She entered holy matrimony with the late Joe Hill, and together they shared the joy of raising one son. She is survived by her son, Marcus (Coretta) Hill, one loving granddaughter, Kimari Hill, and one grandson, Christopher Fears, all of Jacksonville, Florida.

Among her surviving family members are her brother, Bob Finch, of Sacramento, California, and two sisters: Mattie Shannon of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Edna (John) Benton of Springfield, Tennessee. She is also fondly remembered by a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends. She shared a particularly close and devoted bond with her niece, Teresa (Sidney) Banks.

Her life reflected faith, perseverance, and quiet strength. She will be remembered for her commitment to family, her belief in God, and the grace and quiet strength with which she lived her life.

Essie Sue Hill leaves behind cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Loretta Villines Winters, 82, of Springfield, passed from this life on Monday January 19, 2026, at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville. Funeral services will be conducted Friday January 23rd at 1:00 p.m. at the Hillcrest Church of Christ, in Springfield, with Brother Johnny Trail officiating. Interment will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Logan Berry, Cory Willoughby, Louis Ayres, Abram Pryor, Jeff Adams, and Jarrod Helms serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Ayres, Bruce Dean, Cohen Pryor, Mark Berry, Jeff Ayres, James Helms, Josie Helms, John Michael Willoughby, Cordell Willoughby, and Sawyer Willoughby. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 22nd, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Robertson County Funeral Home and on Friday, January 23rd, from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the Hillcrest Church of Christ.

Ms. Loretta was born September 13, 1943, in Springfield, to the late Harriet Clements Villines and the late Robert Villines. She was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ, where she enjoyed teaching and working with the children, and for many years she taught both kindergarten and Sunday School at Main Street Church of Christ. Ms. Loretta was the scheduler for Grubbs Pest Control for over 30 years. She loved butterflies, watching NASCAR, and she always had a great love for children.

In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her son: Don Bruce Winters, by her brother: Bob B. Villines, and by her sister: Lynne Villines Hooper. Ms. Loretta is survived by her husband of 66 years: Jerry Winters of Springfield, by her son: Tim Winters of Springfield, and by her brother: Van D. Villines of Springfield.

Mr. Steve was born on October 24, 1937, in Nashville, Tennessee, to the late Jack & Nell Smith. His career included numerous endeavors including school teacher, college professor, contractor, and antiques dealer: in addition, he had served in the National Guard. His heart was praying for the sick and sharing the Gospel of Christ. He loved to crappie fish and was a “fisherman of men”. He attended First Baptist Joelton.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; and brothers, Paul Smith and “Little Jack” Smith.

He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie (Jeffrey) Dowlen; sons, Larry (Debbie) Smith and Barry (Eileen) Smith; brothers, Perry (Sue) Smith, Robert (Kathy) Smith, Jimmy Smith, Claude (Linda) Smith, and Larry (Donna) Smith; sister, Jean Wellbeloved; sister-in-law, Linda Smith; 7 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.

Lisa was born on September 16, 1966 in Nashville, TN to the Charles Taylor and Sandra (Wade) Taylor. She was a graduate of Greenbrier High School class of 1984. There, she created lasting memories and built friendships that she carried with her throughout her entire life. Lisa spent most of her career in the childcare industry. She loved children and was honored to be a part of so many children’s lives in and around the community. Lisa enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, getting into mischief and going to The Mint.

Lisa is survived by her mother, Sandra Taylor, two daughters, Heather (Jeremy) Herman and Harley English, and granddaughter Laci Anne Hood.
She was preceded in death by her father, whom she loved endlessly, Charles Taylor. By her maternal grandparents, James and Frances Wade, paternal grandparents, Myrtle and Clyde Malugen.

Mr. Hedge was born on June 1, 1951 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late George & Alberta Ballentine Hedge. He spent many years as a country music disc jockey in radio stations across the Southeast, and he was retired from Ingram Book Company. He was a devout Christian.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Phyllis Williams; sons, Walter Hedge, II, Joshua Hedge, and Jonathan Hedge; grandchildren, Connor, Alyssa, Chloe, Emma, Sadie, Carrie & Charlie.

Jerry Lee FisherJerry Lee Fisher, age 76 of Hendersonville passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at Hendersonville Medical Center. He was born April 9, 1949 in Independence Iowa to Gene Elwood & Katherine Clara Stenke Fisher, Sr. He worked as a roofer for many years before his retirement. He loved playing scratch offs and was so in hopes of someday winning the lottery.

He also enjoyed feeding the wild birds and spent time enjoying watching them. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gene Fisher, Jr. and John Fisher; sisters, Sharon Truesdale and Sheila Fry. He is survived by son, Jerry Lee Fisher, Jr.; daughter, Lisa Fisher, both of Oregon; sister, Carrie Minnick, Hendersonville TN; brothers, Jack Fisher, California and Lenny Fisher, Illinois; many nieces and nephews.
