VIDEO: Driver Flees Police With 2-Year-Old Near Coopertown CHARGED
COOPERTOWN, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – The Coopertown Police Department, along with fire and EMS, were lucky to have escaped without injury after a driver decided to flee from a scene after they were found stopped in the middle of the road, with a 2 two year old child in the back seat and a passenger going “in and out of consciousness.
The incident occurred on Tom Austin Highway near Duncan Lane in Coopertown, Tennessee, on Sunday, the first call coming into 911 at 8:40 a.m. Coopertown Police, EMS, and fire personnel were dispatched to the location.
Upon arrival, officers found an SUV sitting in the road with the adult male driver and adult female passenger still inside. Officers and EMS on scene allegedly observed indicators that the situation appeared to be drug-related, according to a release from Coopertown Police.
While officers were speaking with the driver, he suddenly drove off. An officer attempted to gain control of the driver as the vehicle began to move, but was unable to stop him. According to Coopertown Police Chief Tyler Haley, Coopertown Police did not initiate a pursuit due to the risks posed to other drivers and the icy road conditions, determining it was not safe to pursue at that time.
EMS personnel advised officers that there was a child in the back seat of the vehicle. No first responders or suspects were injured during the incident.
After further investigation, police positively identified the driver as Allen McCoy and the passenger as Kristina McCoy. The child in the vehicle was approximately two years old.
Warrants were obtained and later served on both subjects.
Allen McCoy was charged with resisting stop, halt, and frisk, felony evading arrest, and aggravated child abuse or neglect. His bond was set at $90,000.
Kristina McCoy was charged with aggravated child abuse or neglect, with bond set at $75,000.
The Department of Children’s Services was notified due to concerns regarding the neglect of the child’s welfare.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
