I-65 Road Rage Leads To Attempted Homicide Charge For Cross Plains Man
ROBERTSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE (Smokey Barn News): A road rage incident on Interstate 65 has led to serious charges after authorities say one driver opened fire on another vehicle.
Deputies responded on April 22, 2026, to reports of a road-rage incident on I-65 South. Witnesses reported that the victim and the suspect, 26-year-old Zachary William Collins, 26, of Cross Plains, were swerving in and out of traffic and passing each other.
According to investigators, Collins allegedly fired at the victim’s vehicle while traveling on the interstate. Both vehicles exited at mile marker 108, where authorities say Collins fired additional shots. One round reportedly passed through the passenger door and into the seat beneath the passenger.
Authorities later identified and located Collins, who admitted to the incident, according to officials.
Collins is being held at the Robertson County Detention Facility on the following charges:
Criminal Attempt to Commit 2nd Degree Homicide
Aggravated Assault (2 counts)
As with all individuals charged, Collins is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
