Attention Residents: Increased Fire Danger Due to Moderate Drought Conditions

As of September 3, 2024, Robertson County has been classified under the D1 category, indicating a Moderate Drought. This means that conditions are dry enough to significantly increase the risk of brush fires, grass fires, and woods fires in our area.

What This Means for You:

  • Fire Danger: The risk of wildfires is elevated due to the dry conditions. Even small sparks from outdoor activities could lead to significant fires.
  • Water Sources: Agricultural ponds and other water sources may be drying up, putting additional stress on local resources.
  • Dust and Vegetation: Conditions are dusty, and the dry vegetation can easily ignite.

Recommended Precautions:

  1. Avoid Outdoor Burning: Until conditions improve, avoid any outdoor burning. This includes bonfires, burning leaves, and other activities that involve open flames.
  2. Be Mindful of Equipment: Use caution when operating machinery or vehicles near dry grass or brush. Sparks from machinery can ignite a fire.
  3. Properly Dispose of Cigarettes: Make sure cigarette butts are completely extinguished and disposed of in appropriate containers.
  4. Stay Informed: Keep up with local news and updates from the Robertson County Emergency Management Agency for any new fire safety measures or burn bans.

Report Fires Immediately: If you see smoke or flames, don’t hesitate to call 911. Early reporting can prevent a small fire from becoming a large and dangerous wildfire.

“Your Safety is Our Priority and the Robertson County Emergency Management Agency is closely monitoring the situation,” said EMA Director Chance Holmes. “We urge all residents to take these precautions seriously to protect our community from the threat of wildfires. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping Robertson County safe.”
