Fireworks Ignite Two Buildings & Adjacent Home Near Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A Springfield area home was spared from certain destruction by our local firefighters after two adjacent storage buildings (just feet away from the home) ignited  Friday afternoon.

The manufactured home is located in the 3200 block of Burr Rd MAP, the first call coming into 911 just before 4 PM.

After both storage buildings became engulfed in flames, the adjacent home was clearly in danger. Firefighters quickly intervened, limiting the damage to just a bathroom and a closet at one end of the home. Thanks to their swift response, officials reported that about 90% of the home and the family’s personal belongings inside the home were saved.

Travis Wright, a Firefighter and Acting PIO with the White House Community Volunteer Fire Department, told Smokey Barn News that the fire was caused by the ignition of fireworks. Smokey Barn News received numerous reports of explosions in the area after the buildings ignited, likely from the exploding fireworks inside and or near the structures. Wright reported finding a fair collection of fireworks on the property including mortars, along with Roman candles and bottle rockets.

According to Wright, the official cause of the fire is being labeled as -Accidental ignition of fireworks by unsupervised minors.

Though the home will need repairs to be livable again, the home and the family’s personal belongings are largely intact thanks to our local Firefighters. Thankfully the family escaped the fire and no injuries were reported. The American Red Cross will be assisting the family with temporary food and shelter but should the family reach out to the community with any needs that they have, we will bring it to you.

The Greenbrier Fire Department, the White House Community Volunteer Fire Department, the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department, the Robertson County Emergency Management Agency, Robertson County EMS, and the Red Cross all responded to the scene.
