Former Springfield Mayor David Proctor Fisher Dies at 85
ROBERTSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) —David Proctor Fisher, former Springfield Mayor and a well-known figure in the Robertson County community, has died. He was 85. Smokey Barn News has learned that Fisher died on Sunday, October 13th, at NHC Healthcare in Springfield.
Fisher was known for his extensive contributions to the community and served multiple terms as mayor of Springfield serving his last term in office, in 2005. Born on September 5, 1939, in Odessa, Texas, he graduated from Greenbrier High School and owned Springfield Express Trucking before retiring from Titan Transfer Logistics. He was also an active member of the Rotary Club and Springfield First United Methodist Church.
“During the years Dave Fisher was Mayor of Springfield, we worked together on a number of projects, including the library, the airport, and transportation projects that affected both the city and county. Even after Dave left office, we maintained a very close and cordial relationship. He would often stop by my office at the courthouse to offer his advice and perspective on the issues of the day, and I depended on his experience, especially his candor. You never had to wonder what Dave thought—he always expressed himself fully. Even on issues where we didn’t strongly agree, we could still arrive at a consensus because we both knew it would benefit Springfield and Robertson County. Later, as neighbors, I came to appreciate him and Florence even more. His passing leaves a significant void. Thank you, Dave Fisher, for all you did for Springfield and Robertson County.” Former Robertson County Mayor Howard Bradley
Fisher is survived by his wife of 51 years, Florence, and their children, Polly Elaine Fisher Mickle, Perry David Fisher, Kelly Scott Fisher, Frank Lee Callis Jr., Stephen Allen Callis, and Elana Dawn Beers, along with 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Friday, October 18, at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield, with Bro. Adam Callis officiating. A private burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
