Gentle Dental Reopens After December Tornado Destruction
SPRINGFIELD, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Gentle Dental Care in Springfield has reopened at a new location following the destruction of their original facility by December’s tornado.
Dr. Mao, the heart and soul of Gentle Dental, expressed her commitment to Springfield, a community she has served for 17 years. “I love taking care of people, and I love Springfield,” said Dr. Mao, who originally opened her practice on December 26, 2005, on Memorial Boulevard, next to Holman Jewelers and across from Kroger.
The tornado that struck Springfield in December wreaked havoc on numerous businesses. Jet’s Pizza, Ascension Saint Thomas Urgent Care, the AT&T Store, Holman Jewelers, and Valvoline Instant Oil Change were among those either completely destroyed or significantly damaged, forcing them to close or rebuild. Despite the extensive destruction, no serious injuries were reported.
Dr. Mao vividly recalls the night of the tornado. She was at home when a neighbor called to inform her that Holman Jewelers was gone. “If Holman Jewelers is gone, mine has to be gone too,” she thought. When she arrived at her office, it was dark. “I thought, we can fix this, we can rebuild this,” she said. “Then I looked up and saw stars. It was then I realized the roof was gone!”
Determined to rebuild in the community she loves, Dr. Mao chose a new location at 2102 Park Plaza Dr. The new facility, officially opened on June 24, is bigger and better, allowing Gentle Dental to handle more patients. The existing structure at the new location was gutted and completely rebuilt, providing a fresh and modern space for their general dentistry services, known for low or no pain treatments.
“We’re excited to continue serving Springfield in our new, improved location,” Dr. Mao shared. Gentle Dental is now open for scheduling and is currently hiring hygienists to join their team. The community is invited to an Open House on July 13 from 2 to 4 PM to celebrate the reopening and see the new facility.
