Greenbrier Traffic Stop Ends with 13-Year Prison Sentence
GREENBRIER, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A routine traffic stop for speeding in Greenbrier turned into a 13-year prison sentence for a Nashville man. It was 8:20 PM back on November 18, 2023, when a Greenbrier Police Officer initiated a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 41 near Wilson Street. The driver, identified as Dantwan Leslie Crump, age 32, was observed traveling at 67 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. During the interaction, officers detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle that would lead them to discover over a pound of drugs.
When officers instructed Crump to exit the vehicle, he initially resisted but was eventually removed for officer safety. After removing him from the vehicle, a semi-automatic Glock Model 22 handgun, confirmed as stolen from Nashville, was found in his waistband. According to Greenbrier Police, a search of the vehicle revealed a significant amount of cash totaling $16,619, which authorities believe may be proceeds from narcotics sales.
Further investigation of the vehicle uncovered various controlled substances, including approximately 13.05 ounces (370.3 grams) of Fentanyl, 1.05 ounces (29.7 grams) of cocaine, 1.61 ounces (45.6 grams) of methamphetamine, and 0.53 ounces (15 grams) of marijuana. Additionally, a digital scale was found, suggesting the intent to distribute.
According to Greenbrier Police, Crump had a prior felony conviction for drug-related offenses. Following the traffic stop, he was charged with multiple counts, including possession of narcotics with intent to sell and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
According to Detective Joseph Chelini with the Greenbrier Police Department, on September 20th, Crump received a 13-year sentence as part of a plea agreement. The case underscores the serious legal repercussions associated with drug possession and distribution, particularly when firearms are involved.
