Obituary for Barry L. Mark

Barry L. Mark, age 74 of Greenbrier, died Thursday, April 11, 2019 at Centennial Medical center. His remains are to be cremated and a private memorial service will be held at American Legion Post 45 in Greenbrier.

Mr. Mark was born January 10, 1945 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Arthur and Ruth Zager Mark. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a retired truck driver with Newsday Inc. in New York and was a member of the VFW.

He is survived by his wife, Nora A. Martin of Greenbrier; sons, Arthur Mark of San Diego, CA and Kenneth Mark of Arizona; floral squaresteps-sons, Thomas R. Martin, Jr. of Greenbrier, Stephen F. Martin of Naples, FL, and Robert E. Martin of Cedar Hill; step-daughter, Cheryl Anne Martin of Kingsland, TX; brother, Todd Mark of Lutts, FL; sister, Joyce Dipillow of Wyomissing, PA; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two nieces; and two nephews.

Obituary for Jerry Lynn Burton

Jerry Lynn Burton, 76, of Springfield, TN, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at his residence.

Jerry was born on January 24, 1943, to the late Clarence Dorton Burton and Vallie Marie Carr Burton. He was also preceded in death by his son, Jerry Lynn Burton Jr. and brother, Clarence “Pert” Burton.

Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at the Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel with Barry Throneberry officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Jerry worked in sales and marketing and retired from Nabisco and Kroger. He was a member of East End Church of Christ.

floral squareJerry is survived by his wife, Barbara Burton of Springfield, TN; two daughters, Jennifer (Andy) Winn of Clarksville, TN and Sarah (Heath) Kane of Springfield, TN; and five grandchildren, Stephanie Winn, Jenna Winn, Jackson Kane, Elijah Kane, and Samuel Kane.

Neal Lee VanWay, age 85 of Cross Plains, TN passed away April 7, 2019. He was born September 27, 1933 in Parkersburg, WV to Melvin Delbert VanWay and the former Helen Marie Ogg.

Mr. VanWay was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Carroll VanWay and Jerry VanWay; and sister, Ruth Busch.

He is survived by his wife, Imma Jean VanWay; son, Mark (Anita) VanWay; daughters, Kelly VanWay and Leigh Ann Crawford; grandchildren, Brian (Nina) VanWay and Adam VanWay; and great-grandchildren, Cali VanWay and Farrah VanWay.

Bonnie PhillipsBonnie Alma Phillips, age 69, of Madison, Tennessee, died Thursday, April 11th, 2019 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 o’clock pm, Monday, April 15th, at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View with Bro. Corey Minter officiating. Burial will follow at EverRest Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-6:00PM and again on Monday from 11:00AM until the hour of service at 1:00PM.

Bonnie was born on February 8, 1950 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Marvis and Margaret Fort Read. She was retired from the State of Tennessee Department of Labor and she was a Christian.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Phillips; brother, Bobby Read; step-son, Pat Phillips; step-daughter, Brenda Boone; and niece, Britnee Richards.

Linda Louise PowelsonLinda Louise Powelson, age 65 of White House, TN, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2019.

Linda was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter. She was an accomplished and popular singer and entertainer, known in the music business as Linda Nail. Linda recorded many songs and some of these found their way into the Billboard Top 100 Charts. She was a long-time performer at Opryland USA and was featured in the Country Music USA show. Linda was one of the very first to perform as Minnie Pearl. She was very passionate about music and life.

She is preceded in death by her father, John Rose. She is survived by her son, Chris Powelson; daughter, Lauren (Drew) Rigsby; grandchildren, Haley Gill, William Powelson, Ella Grace Rigsby, Bennett Dale Rigsby; sisters Barbara (Johnny) Flynn, Becky Shackelford, Penny Margrave; and a daughter-in-law, Melissa Powelson.

Burial will follow at EverRest Cemetery with Charles Knobloch, Tommy Swindle, Mark Knobloch, Stan Harriington, Clint Harrington, and Noah Johnson serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at 24 Church on Saturday from 2:00PM until the hour of service at 4:00PM.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Joanna was born on November 25, 1973 in Visalia, California to Steven and Pamela Rowland Rask. She was a special education teacher at Coopertown Middle School and she loved her students. Joanna was a loving wife, a wonderful mother, and she loved to travel and visit historical landmarks. She attended 24 Church, and her desire in life was to glorify her Lord.

Joanna is preceded in death by grandparents, James Rowland, Glen and Betty Rask; sister, Sarah Rask; and son, Caleb Johnson.

The family will receive friends 10 AM to 8 PM on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 and 10 AM to 12 PM on Wednesday, April 10th at the funeral home. The funeral service will follow at 12 Pm on Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Donnie Bryant officiating.

She was born in Nashville, TN on May 14, 1949 to Clayton Mangrum and Janie Rader Corlew. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Smithson.
She was a seamstress for a uniform manufacturing company. She loved watching TV. Her favorites were, The Young and the Restless, In The Heat Of The Night and wrestling.

A beloved Robertson County First Grade Teacher has died, according to school officials.

Pam Woodard, 60, a First-grade teacher at Robert F. Woodall Elementary School in White House, TN has died. Woodard passed away over the weekend due to a health-related issue.

Robertson County School’s released the following statement on Sunday evening.

“Robertson County School’s is deeply saddened at the loss of Pam Woodard this morning and extends sincere condolences to her family, three of whom are also part of the RCS family.”

Jennifer was born on October 25, 1972 in Nashville to the late Donnie Ray Maddox and Jo Ann Maddox. She was a homemaker and a member of the 24 Church in Pleasant View. Jennifer had a huge heart and an infectious smile- she was a loving person to all she met and loved her family dearly.

In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by her grandparents, J.R. & Lola Mae Ruffin; Ralph Maddox, and James & Faye Krakowski.

Joyce KirbyJoyce Robertson Kirby, of Hermitage and formerly of Robertson County, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Summit Medical Center in Nashville.

A Private Graveside service will be held.

Mrs. Kirby was born in Adairville, KY to the late Virgil Lee and Carrie Ann Griffin Robertson. She was the owner of “All Star Talent” a country music booking agency and was of the Methodist Faith.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Kirby is preceded in death by her first husband, Leonard Earl Reid, her second husband, William “Bill” Kirby, her sisters, Odel Crawford and Mary Frances Grider, and her brothers, James Robertson and Bruce Robertson.
