Kevin “Payton” Reid, age 19 of Greenbrier passed away Sunday, August 15, 2021 in Robertson County.  (News coverage)

A Memorial Service will be held at 7 pm on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Austin & Bell Funeral Home Greenbrier with Bro. Josh Culver officiating. The family will receive friends 4pm to 7pm prior to the service at 7pm on Thursday at the funeral home.

Payton was born in Nashville, TN on June 13, 2002 to Scott Alan and Hollie Lynn Reid. He was a 2020 graduate of Greenbrier High School and attended Bethlehem Baptist Church. He loved his family and enjoyed music, gaming, fishing and spending time outdoors.
floral squareHe is preceded in death by great-grandfather, Everette Yarbrough, great-grandmother, Barbara Henderson and great-grandmother, Lucy McClaran.

He is survived by his parents, Timothy Scott Reid and Hollie Lynn Reid; brothers, Elijah James Reid, Jacob Scott Reid, Matthew Alan Reid; grandparents, Kevin (Darlene) Yarbrough, Rhonda Russell and great-grandmother, Ann Yarbrough.

Obituary for Joann “Jody” Marshall Bean

Joann “Jody” Marshall Bean, 91, of Springfield, departed this life on Sunday August 15, 2021, at NHC Healthcare in Springfield. A private family graveside service will be conducted on Friday August 20th in the Green Acres Memory Gardens in Crossville with Reverend Jerry Wallace officiating. Paul Hart, Andrew Bixby, Tommy Bean, and Orville Hale will serve as pallbearers. The family will hold a Memorial Service at a future date.

Mrs. Bean was born January 22, 1930, in Toledo, OH to the late George and Sara Samuel Marshall. She was a retired school teacher from the Cumberland County Board of Education. Mrs. Bean was a member of Springfield First United Methodist Church, where she served as a Stephen Minister. She was an avid reader, enjoyed knitting, and especially loved spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter: Bethany Bean, by her sister: Sharon “Sherry” Brown, by her nephew: Warren Brown, and by the father of her children: Judge James A. Bean.

Pamela Renea Dixon, age 56, of Hendersonville, passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2021. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother (Mimi) and friend. She was a good friend to everyone she met and had a good sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by her farther, Ernest Draper Wilson. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, David Dixon; daughter, Brandi N.(Daniel) Dixon; son Joshua D.(Carrie) Dixon; mother, Helen Wilson; sister Shannon (Mark) Wilson; brother Randy (Angela) Wilson; granddaughter, Hazley floral squareRaine; several nieces and nephews; and very close friends Jenny and Dale Payne.

Randy was born on September 24, 1959 in Springfield, Tennessee to the late Joseph Edward and Arretta Jeannette Ledford Gill. He was of Baptist faith and formerly worked as a material handler at Unarco. In addition to his parents, Randy is preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Gill.

She was born February 4, 1934 in Cedar Hill, TN to the late John Lee, Sr and Lillian Evans Bagwell. She was a member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ in Springfield, TN.

She enjoyed cooking, spending time with friends and her children, grands and greats and sharing her life-long days with the love of her life for almost 69 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Roger Alan Herndon, Sr.

He worked as a record analyst for Mission Hospital/HCA. Mr. Foster was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed woodworking and RV camping.

Age 87, formerly of Greenbrier passed away Sunday, August 15, 2021 at The Waters of Robertson. She was born March 15, 1934 in Nashville, TN to Dan Taylor and Mabel Beulah Cole Nichols. She worked as a bakery manager before her retirement. She enjoyed cake decorating and made the best blackberry cobbler in the world. She really enjoyed spending time with her family and cooking for family get togethers. Mrs. Edmonds was a Christian and attended the Methodist Church and then later the Pentecostal Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Roy Everette Edmonds; sister, Nancy Alcorn; brothers, Dan Nichols, Harold Nichols and Kenny Nichols. Rita was born on October 30, 1957 in Harrodsburg, KY to the late Ezra C. Weldon & Mary E. Weldon of Louisville KY. She was the bookkeeper for Greenridge Termite & Pest Control for the last 17 years. She loved quite time and playing computer games and collecting all things elephants.

In addition to her parents, she is proceeded in death by a brother, Rory C. Weldon of Louisville, KY.

Larry Norman Binkley, age 72 of Joelton, Tennessee, died Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at NorthCrest Medical Center in Springfield.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Sunday, August 15th from 11:00AM until the hour of service at 3:00PM.

Mr. Binkley was born on December 23rd, 1948 in Nashville, Tennessee, to the late Leonard Neal and Lucille Dillard Binkley. He was retired from the printing business and loved mowing grass and watching western movies. He especially loved being a grandpa.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Janice Binkley; and brother, Paul Binkley.

Lois Ann Davis Parker, age 79, of Clarksville, died on Monday, August 9, 2021 at her home. She was born on September 16, 1941 in Sylva, North Carolina to the late William McKinley and Ella Mae Nations Davis. She was a retired hairdresser and was a member of the Barkers Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Parker is preceded in death by her husband, William Douglas Parker; son, Scott Parker; brother, Perry Davis; sisters, Alice Walker, Hilda Wilks, and Ruth Davis.

Mrs. Parker is survived by her son, Richard (Amy Patrick) Parker of Satellite Beach, Florida; daughter, Jennefer Parker Lindsey of Clarksville; brother, Jim (Sara) Davis of Sylva, North Carolina; grandchildren, Zachary Parker, Heath Parker, Nichole Lindsey Groves, Jake Parker, and Joshua Lindsey.

Age 50 of Cross Plains passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Skyline Medical Center. He was born August 2, 1971 in Norwick, Connecticut to Stephen Leroy and Vicki Ann Webb Shipley. He worked for 12 years for the Davidson County Sheriff’s Department and held the rank of Lieutenant. He was currently employed by the White House Post Office. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force during Operation Desert Shield/Storm. He loved riding motorcycles, collecting and shooting guns and doing mechanic work. He also loved wolves and dogs.

Philip is survived by his sons, Christian Shipley, Hendersonville, TN and James Shipley, Cross Plains, TN; father, Stephen Shipley, Brentwood, TN; mother, Vicki Shipley, Bloomington, IN; brothers, Trent Shipley, Bloomington, IN and JT (Angela) Shipley, Brentwood, TN.

Obituary for Roy Gilbert Stark Sr.

Mr. Roy Gilbert Stark, Sr., age 94, of Springfield, died Sunday, August 8, 2021 at his home at Morningside Assisted Living in Springfield, Tennessee.

Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at 11:00am in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Brother Steve Freeman and Brother Bob Carroll officiating. Burial followed in the Lee Cemetery in Coopertown with The American Legion, VFW serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers were the Eastland Heights Baptist Church Boy’s Sunday School Class of 1960’s.

Visitation with the family was held Tuesday, August 10, 2021 from 4-8pm and again on Wednesday from 10am until time of service at 11am.

Mr. Stark was born November, 19, 1926 in Coopertown, Tennessee to the late Leonard Bell and Dollie Lee Stark. He grew up in Coopertown from 1926 till 1946, a share cropper’s son. At age nine he started working on the farm and from there he became a School Bus Dispatcher, Truck Driver, and held position at Branch Freightline. Mr. Stark dropped out of school in 1944 to join the U.S. Army Air Corp, serving in WWII and Korea. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church where, in 1955, he became a Deacon, and was later named Chairman of Deacons. He was Executive Board Member of Robertson County Baptist Association for several years as well as Sunday School Director. Mr. Stark was also Chairman of the Robertson County Baptist Athletic Association that included Basketball and Softball through the 1970’s.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Stark is preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Gregory Stark who died 2001; brother, Charles Stark; and sister, Virginia Lee Nichols Elrod. Roy is survived by his sons, Roy G. Obituary for Jean Morgan

Velma “Jean” Morgan, age 70 of Chapmansboro, Tennessee, passed away Saturday, August 7, 2021 at St. Thomas West in Nashville.

Funeral services were conducted at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View at 11:00AM on Saturday, August 14th, with Bro. Randy Riggs officiating. Burial followed at 1:30PM at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Nashville with Brad Lassiter, Lee Tidwell, Brycen Tidwell, Ethan Smith, Porter Dickerson, and Wayne Wilson serving as pallbearers.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Friday from 4-8PM and again on Saturday from 9:00AM until the hour of service at 11:00AM.

Mrs. Morgan was born on May 13, 1951 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Burt & Lula Simpkins Warren. Jean was retired after 45 years as a LPN at Baptist Hospital. She loved her family and grandchildren dearly. She loved the beach, scrapbooking, yard work, and had a passion for genealogy. She was a volunteer for a clothing and food ministry. In all of her passionate endeavors and everyone that knew her, her daughters described her as “a firecracker” and “spunky” person. Jean was a member of Oaklawn Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Freddie Morgan; brother, James Warren; and a sister, Sheila Cox.

Survivors include her daughters, Sandra (George) Ward, Melanie (Porter) Dickerson, Marcy (Lee) Tidwell, Jennifer (Scott) floral squareWilliamson; sisters, Tressa Strawn, Debbie (Robin) Patterson; grandchildren, Heather Lassiter, Brad (Jennifer) Lassiter, Jessica (Wayne) Wilson, Christian Dickerson, Faith Dickerson, Ray Evans, Porter (Autumn) Dickerson, Brycen Tidwell, Ethan Smith, Langley Williamson; twelve great grandchildren (and one on the way).

Obituary for Doris June Fuqua

Doris June Fuqua, 92 left her loving family early on August 08, 2021. Doris was born on April 8, 1929 to father, Lewis Lawrence McPherson and mother, Mary Watts McPherson of Nashville, Tennessee. Doris was predeceased by her cherished husband, Leonard Fuqua, both parents, her younger brother, David McPherson, grandsons, Justin and Barrett Fuqua, and granddaughter, Tracey Fuqua Podany.

Doris met her husband, Leonard while attending Hume Fogg High School in Nashville during the Second World War years. They were married in January 1947 and were the parents of five sons, Ray Fuqua (Pamela), Danny Fuqua, David Fuqua (Louise), Mark Fuqua (Vickie), and Steve Fuqua (Debbie). Doris was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She and Leonard made their home in East Nashville until 1962 when they moved the family to Hendersonville. Following their retirement in 1978, they spent many years living part-time in Naples, Florida.

Doris is survived by her precious grandchildren, Todd Fuqua, Dave Fuqua, Ryan Fuqua (Dana), Tyler Fuqua Masters (Jordan), Leslie Fuqua Cornwell (Wes), Calan Ray Fuqua (Allie), Kristen Fuqua Johnson (Nick), Stephen Fuqua (Stephanie), Cody Fuqua, and Brooke Fuqua Irizarry (DJ), along with twenty-one great grandchildren, and three great, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was known to many in the family as the “Pink Grandma”.

Doris is also survived by her identical twin sister, Dorothy Joy Glasgow. The twins were fortunate to live together for the past eight years in assisted living facilities in Hendersonville.

Obituary for Billy Mack Wilkins

Billy Mack Wilkins went to be with the Lord on August 2, 2021 at 6 AM at the age of 76 surrounded by his wife and children at his home.

Billy is predeceased by his father, Stanley Sherwood, mother, Elsie Mae and brother, Bobby Eugene.

Billy is survived by his loving wife, Diane Lorraine Wilkins of 40 years. He is lovingly remembered by his children William Mack Wilkins, Robert James Cunningham (Lisa), Laura Lynn Cunningham, Robin Lee Bowden (Brett), and Christopher Michael Cunningham (Juanita), 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, his sister, Lucette Jones (Raymond), many nieces, nephews, cousins, and 1 uncle.

Billy was born in Springfield, Tennessee on June 10, 1945. He attended Springfield High School and worked in the aircraft floral squareindustry as a manufacturing engineer for 50+ years. Billy enjoyed singing and playing the guitar, wood carving, writing, and spending time with his family.

The memorial service will be held at Main Street Church of Christ, 318 N. Main St. Springfield, Tennessee, on August 21, 2021 at 1 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s hospital.

Obituary for Robert Dean “Bobby” Adkins

Robert Dean “Bobby” Adkins, age 60 of Springfield, Tennessee died Wednesday August 4, 2021, at his home.

Funeral services were held at 11 am on Friday August 6th in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Tim Harris officiating. Graveside services will be in the Unity Cemetery in Lawrenceburg, TN at 3 pm on Friday. The family received friends on Friday at the funeral home from 9 am until 11 am.

Bobby was born October 10, 1960, in Lorain, Ohio to his late parents, William and Sybil Rogers Adkins II. He was recently retired from construction. Bobby enjoyed working and his hobby was working, but when he decided to take some time off he enjoyed going camping at Land Between the Lakes, being with his friends at the Piggy Pit, and spending time with his family, especially his floral squaregrandchildren. His wife, Sandy Adkins and brothers, Tommy and Buddy Adkins also preceded him in death. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Charles “Chuckie” and Jade Adkins of Clarksville, TN: grandchildren, Brayden Adkins and Elizabeth Adkins of Clarksville; girlfriend, Jennifer Denton of Springfield; brother, David Adkins of Springfield and sisters, Patty Ruck of White House, TN and Sarah Bess of White House, TN.

Mattie O. Henderson, age 75, of Springfield, TN went Home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Tennova Medical Center in Clarksville, Tennessee. She was born December 15, 1945 in Adams, TN to the late Curtis and Elizabeth Suggs Johnson, Sr.

Mattie was a member of Bells Chapel Baptist Church where she served on the Mother’s Board, Pres- ident of the Usher Board and sang in the Senior Choir. She attended Bransford High School. She retired from Conwood Tobacco Company where she worked for many years. She was also a caregiver and babysitter.

Mattie loved spending time with her family and her grandchildren. She enjoyed shopping with her family and cooking for them. Whatever she could do to help you, she would.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Peggy Johnson and Polly Leavell; brothers, Curtis Johnson, Jr., Charles Johnson, Sam Bobby Johnson, James Earl Johnson and Mose Johnson, and grandson, Travon Hoosier.

Betty Jean Castleman Traughber, 82, of Greenbrier, passed from this life on Monday August 2, 2021, at the home of her daughter.

Graveside services were conducted Friday August 6th at 2:00 p.m. in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Tim Harris officiating. Pallbearers will be Michael “Bubba” Dorris, Mark Hendricks, Mark Halley, Ralph Dean, Billy Traughber, Billy Ray White. The family received friends on Friday from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. at the Robertson County Funeral Home.

Mrs. Traughber was born March 16, 1939, in Nashville, to the late Stanley and Katherine Agee Eli. She was a graduate of East High School in Nashville. Mrs. Traughber was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where she served as church organist for over 18 years. She loved quilting and playing both piano and organ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands: floral squareJames Albert “Jim” Castleman and Joe T. Traughber.

Mrs. Castleman is survived by her daughter: Kim Castleman Halley and her husband Mark of Greenbrier.

Jeffrey Dewayne Ogg, age 57 of Big Rock, TN passed away Friday, August 6th, 2021 at Tennova Hospital in Clarksville, TN.

There are no services planned at this time.

He was born May 27, 1964 in Springfield, TN to the late Samuel Franklin Ogg and Betty Ruth Brown Ogg. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Bill Ogg.

He was a farmer and enjoyed being outdoors. He loved his children and grandchildren very much. He also loved his dog “Jack”, mowing the lawn, drinking coffee and watching scary movies.

Obituary for Jessie G. Jones

Jessie Glenn (Wells) Jones was born March 17, 1931, in Robertson County, Tennessee, to the union of Willie Glenn Wells (deceased) and Ola Louise (Baird) Wells (deceased).

Jessie Jones accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age at Mt. Olive Baptist Church under the pastorship of Reverend C. E. Roberts and served faithfully in numerous positions spanning over 72 years, including Sunday School Teacher, Church Clerk, the Mothers’ Board, Choir No. 2 President, and Women’s Auxiliary president. She participated in the Little Fork North Tennessee District Association (LFNT) as secretary for the parent body, Women’s Auxiliary as president, and many other roles.

Jessie received her education in the Robertson County School System, where she graduated from Bransford High School in 1949 and served as class poet. She continued her education at Nashville College, where she studied medical billing and coding. Jessie is a published poet featured in the National Library of Poetry.

As a pillar in the community, she was a board member of the Bransford Youth Development Center, NAACP member, civil rights activist, and voting poll official. She was the founder of Family Community Action, an outreach program that offered scholarships, education planning, social -skill development, and other sponsored events for Springfield residents. Jessie will be remembered for her servant’s heart and dedication to ministry through song. Jessie sang with the Ambassadors for Christ, Christians around the Clock, Spiritual Twelve, and Power & Praise.

Jessie was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Lee Jones; children: Charles Jones Sr., Perry Odell Jones, Alma Ruth Jones, and Wesley Jones; grandson: Brandon Jones; siblings: James Albert Wells, Nora Caldwell, and Dovie Sue Wells.

She leaves to cherish her memories; children: Jerrell (Deborah) Jones, Brenda Jones, Dr. Linda (Russell) Givens, and Janice (Ricky) Parham; grandchildren: Charles Jones Jr., Stelita Jones, Mary Jones, Darian Morris, Latoya Morris, Jerowyn Jones, Latreece Jones, Wayne Jones, Bryan Boyd, LaKenta Jones, Angeli Smith, Jocelyn Morton, Carlos Crockett, Tamisha Crockett, Deshon Jones, LaJessica Darden, Cornelius Etherly, Xavier Etherly, Tyler Jones, Breanna Jones, LaConya Parham, Rikki Parham and Giszelle Gott. Her forty – three greatgrandchildren; sister: Elizabeth Bell. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and family friends.

Viewing and Visitation: Friday, August 6 at W. D. Crowder Funeral Home and Saturday with funeral to follow at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Quinton Yates, Sr, Eulogy and Reverend C. P. Long, Jr., Officiant. Interment was in Restlawn Memorial Garden.

Carole Ross Oakley, age 73 of Ridgetop, TN passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at her home.

She was born in Victoria, TN on August 18, 1947 to to the late Asa Gott and Ethel Miller Ross. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sharyn Annette Oakley; brothers, Charles Ross, Harry Ross, Ray Ross, A.G. Ross, Ricky Ross; sisters, Treva Frame, Lynda and Glenda Ross.

“Carole Ross Oakley was known by most as “Nonnie”. Family was her favorite part of life. She loved her God first, then her husband, and then she poured what was left into her girls, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. She was an absolute pillar in her family. Her grandkids describe her as faithful, wise, selfless, kind, feisty, devoted, honest, thoughtful, loving, creative, and unconditional. She enjoyed watching the birds and other wildlife, and she took great pride in creating and perfecting her outdoor oasis. She was a woman of immense faith and wisdom, but her greatest attribution was teaching her family how to love.”
She was the office manager for CMI Equipment.

Obituary for Cecil Eugene Fry

Age 78 of Cross Plains passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at NorthCrest Medical Center in Springfield. He was born November 3, 1942 in Sumner County, TN to Homer & Inez Reagan Fry. He worked as a Brick and Rock Mason and was very gifted in his work, building many houses in White House and the surrounding areas. He was the owner of Cecil’s Record Shop. He also attended Goodlettsville United Pentecostal Church. Mr. Fry was a wonderful father, husband, brother and grandfather and did his best to provide for all of the needs of his family. The children especially remember him making Christmas a special time for their family.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Tommy Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 58-1/2 years, Carolyn Fry, Cross Plains, TN; daughters, Cecilia Roberts, Cross Plains, TN and Tammy Johnson, Cottontown, TN; brothers, Dale Fry and Bobby Fry, both of Cross Plains, TN and Glenn Fry, Greenbrier, TN; 3 floral squaregrandchildren, Nikki Roberts, Amanda London and Anthony Wayne Tompkins; 1 great grandchild, Shane Cecil Tompkins.

Montgomery Hutchison “Buddy” Hurt Jr., age 83, of Gallatin, passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2021. Buddy was born in Richmond, VA on October 30, 1937. He grew up in Hendersonville and graduated Hendersonville High School in 1955.

Buddy is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kay Durham Hurt; son, John (Sherrie) Hurt; grandson, John Porter Hurt; and daughter, Ann Hurt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Montgomery and Felix Worsham Hurt; and sister, Lila Lee Hurt.

Obituary for Mildred Joyce Swint

Mildred Joyce Sledge Swint, born May 6, 1930, left this earth and was reunited with the love of her life on Monday, August 2, 2021.

Mildred was born and raised in Nashville where she attended Isaac Litton High School and graduated Valedictorian of her class in 1948. She was a legacy in her own right being the first woman in Nashville to survive an open-heart bypass surgery procedure at the age of 22. Mildred would then go on to live a full life, spending time traveling the world, cultivating a beautiful garden, sharing her green thumb with her children and grandchildren, and cooking her famous fried pies for her family and friends. She loved reading, painting and playing the steel guitar. She was an avid church goer at the Hendersonville Church of Christ. Mildred loved playing Rook and taking day trips with her Sunday School Class and monthly visits to Cracker Barrel with the Brunch Bunch. She was happiest when surrounded by her family and with a lap full of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family will strive to keep her legacy alive by walking through this life with love and grace, shining light on all of those they meet, just as she did.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William Richard Swint, Sr.; mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Thomas Sledge; and her brother-in-law, Frank Fagan.

She is survived by her three children, Richard (Karen) Swint, Andy (Debbie) Swint, and Linda (Ron) Bell; 8 grandchildren, Kristen (Chad) Rue, Chaz (Natasha) Swint, Ryker (Bri) Swint, Amy (Brian) Bean, Andrea (Amon) Binkley, Amanda Swint, Drew (Megan) Swint and Alex Barry; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Fagan; and brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Swint.
