Arrangements for Rebecca R. Gardner

Rebecca Rowena Jones Gardner transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at NHC Springfield Nursing Home due to natural causes. She was 94 years old. Rebecca was born on December 5, 1927, in Robertson County, Tennessee to the late Matthew Jones and Minnie Watkins Jones. She was one of six children born to this union. In addition to her parents, all siblings preceded her in death: Richard, LD, Frank, Willie Lee, and John. She was also preceded in death by one grandchild, Danita Collette Gardner.

Rebecca attended Woodard School in Robertson County, Tennessee, through the end of the eighth grade.

She met Joe Daniel Gardner, the love of her life, and they were married August 5, 1944. Their marriage proved its depth, overcoming a separation with remarriage on June 21, 1978. Only Joe’s death, March 9, 1995, could separate these two. Speaking to Rebecca for any length of time would reveal the special place he still held in her heart.

Rebecca enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, and taking care of people. She loved her family, church, friends, candy, and animals. Most of all, she loved the Lord. She accepted Him as her personal Savior and was a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church of Springfield until she and her husband remarried. At that time, she became a member of Faith Apostolic Church (City of Faith Church), where she served as a mother and worked in the kitchen.

Rebecca retired from Nasco, Inc., where she received several commendations for her excellent work. She was a diligent worker. Upon retiring from Nasco, she worked at Elmhurst Nursing Home in the laundry department. While there, she developed relationships with patients, and they felt comfortable asking her for help when they needed it.

Obituary for William “Flash” Gordon

William “Flash” Gordon, age 74, beloved husband of Mary Gordon, died Friday, December 24th from multiple organ failure due to complications from COVID-19.

Flash was a man of broad talents and tastes. He is remembered as a man who loved his friends and made friends wherever he went. He lived life in the moment and enriched the moments he shared with others.

He was born William Marvin Gordon III on the Ides of March 1947 in Miami, FL, where he was raised by his parents, Georgia and William Gordon II. When Flash was 16, he moved to Uvalda GA. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Army, where he served a tour of duty in Vietnam and received a Purple Heart. After his service, he held a variety of jobs, including surveyor, songwriter, musician, and horse breeder. Ten years ago he received a kidney transplant, which allowed Flash many additional years of a full and happy life.

His loves and joys were many. He loved his wife and friends, who became his family. He loved everything about horses, establishing a Thoroughbred horse farm, Flashlane, with wife Mary. Together they raised and groomed race horses. He also enjoyed reading as well as writing; in his later years he authored a novel about coming home as a war veteran. An avid football fan, Flash followed the Titans and enjoyed forming fantasy teams.

He loved music, especially Country and Western, playing, performing and writing songs; among the many artists who have performed his work are Alabama, Mel Tillis, David Allan Coe, Charley Rich, and Hank Williams Jr. One of his songs was recently featured in the movie Arkansas. His music documents his keen observations of love and respect for human life.

floral squareHe is survived by his wife Mary, Mary’s Family in Wisconsin, an aunt and many cousins and friends in the Savannah and Uvalda Georgia area.

Plans for interment and memorials are being postponed to a safer time. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested in his name to the ASPCA, Wounded Warrior Project, or National Kidney Foundation.
