Obituary for Harold Dean “Buster” Cantrell

Harold Dean “Buster” Cantrell, age 53 of Springfield, Tennessee, died Saturday May 29th 2021 at North Crest Health in Springfield. His remains were cremated and a private family service will be held.

Buster was born February 8, 1968, in Hendersonville, TN to the late Harold Lloyd Cantrell and Evelyn Settle Cantrell. His brothers, Kenneth Lloyd Cantrell and James Harrison Cantrell also preceded him in death. Buster was a building framer by trade and his sisters said he loved woodworking and floral squareespecially loved anything that moved fast.

Surviving him are his sister’s and brother’s-in-law, Rhonda “Sally” Savley and Rob of Bowling Green, KY and Wanda Pyle and Bruce of Lexington, KY and many nieces and nephews.

Obituary for Susie Pearson Williams

Susie Pearson Williams, 82, of Springfield, passed from this life on Thursday May 27, 2021 at Morningside of Springfield.

Graveside services were conducted Sunday May 30, 2021 at 12:30 p.m. in the Williams Chapel Cemetery with Brother Keith Wilson officiating. Pallbearers were Corey Williams, Kenneth Spivey, Carter Spivey, Joe Williams, Bryant Hallman, Jimmy Sanders, and J.L. Pearson. The family received friends following the graveside service on Sunday in the Williams Chapel Cemetery.

Mrs. Williams was born January 10, 1939 in Springfield to the late Herman and Clara Belle Aldridge Pearson. She was a homemaker and a member of Williams Chapel Baptist Church. Mrs. Williams loved sewing and gardening. Her favorite pastime was cooking, and everyone enjoyed her homemade biscuits and her chocolate pies. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son: Terry Lynn Williams, and by her siblings: Lee Allen Pearson, Jackie Pearson, and Jo Dean Honeycutt.

floral squareMrs. Williams is survived by her husband of 65 years, Thomas Moore Williams of Springfield, by her son and daughter-in-law: Larry and Nancy Williams of Springfield, by her sister and brother-in-law: Glenda and Joe Williams of Springfield, by her grandchildren: Amanda (Kenneth) Spivey and Corey Williams, and by her 5 great grandchildren.

Obituary for Jennifer Jo Johnson

Jennifer Jo Johnson, age 49 of Springfield, Tennessee died Tuesday May 25, 2021 at her home.

Funeral services were held at 5 pm on Thursday May 27, 2021 in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Smith officiating. Her remains were cremated after the service. The family received friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 1 pm till the hour of service at 5 pm.

Jennifer was born November 11, 1971 in Springfield to Shirley Pewitt Burns Adcock and the late Joe Thomas Burns. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Joe Burns and sister, JoAnn Burns. She worked as a caregiver. Jennifer loved her family, especially her grandchildren and had a special fondness floral squarefor animals.

She is survived by her mother, Shirley Burns Adcock of Springfield; son, Michael (Mandy Jackson) Johnson of Lewisburg, KY; daughter’s, Cassondra Norris of Lewisburg, KY, and Jessica Johnson of Springfield; sister, Melissa Drake of Cottontown, TN and grandchildren, Aydan Jones, Haley Norris, Thomas Burns and one on the way.

Obituary for Jimmie Seabolt

Jimmie Seabolt, 66, of Gallatin, passed away on Monday May 24, 2021 at his home.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday May 29th at 1:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Pastor William Sloan officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Dakota Smith, Caleb Smith, Jonathan Beretta, Jeremy Seabolt, Chris Seabolt, Brandon Clinard, Matthew Seabolt, Ronald Seabolt, Ricky Seabolt, and Randy Seabolt. The family received friends on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Jimmie was born May 22, 1955 in Sparta, TN to the late Marvin and Vinnie Howell Seabolt. He was a graduate of East Robertson High School Class of 1973 and was of the Baptist faith. Jimmie worked many years at Unarco in Springfield. He enjoyed woodworking, riding motorcycles, and spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son: Jimmie Seabolt, Jr., by his stepson: Jacob Beretta, and by his siblings: Betty Jean Donelson, Bobby, Harold, and J.D. Seabolt.

Jimmie is survived by his wife: Karen Pharris Seabolt of Gallatin, by his daughter: Brandie Olinger of Adairville, KY, by his stepson: Jonathan Beretta of Gallatin, by his brothers: Ron (Bethany) Seabolt floral squareand Ralph (Linda) Seabolt all of Cross Plains, by his sister: Darlene (Wayne) Clinard of Springfield, and by his grandchildren: Caleb and Dakota Smith.

If so desired, the family request memorial contributions be made to the Burn Unit at Vanderbilt Medical Center in memory of Jimmie Seabolt and his stepson: Jacob Beretta. They were both in a house fire in 2009 and Jacob passed away from his injuries.

Wayne Charles Shick, age 70, of Hendersonville, passed away Monday, April 26, 2021 at TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center. Wayne was a Christian, musician, music teacher, Civil War buff, a U.S. Army veteran, and enjoyed politics. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

Wayne was preceded in death by his father, Edwin Shick; and a brother, Donald Shick.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Laurie Shick; sons, Troy Shick, Adam (Stefanie) Shick, Austin Price, and Jesse Price; a daughter, Tracy Shick; 9 grandchildren, Lynnzie, Alicia, Anita, floral squareAlexandra, Carmen, Adriana, Xavier, Zack, and Josh; 2 great grandchildren, Roman and Malina; his mother, Maxine Evans Shick; and brothers, Raymond, Wendell and Glenn Shick.

Richard Dewayne Meadows, age 78, of Hendersonville passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Abner and Josephine Meadows; and his grandma Sarah.

Richard is survived by his wife of 46 years, Julia Ann Craft; sons, Jason (Lori) Meadows and R.J. (Dr. Renee) Meadows; daughter, Niki Meadows; grandchildren, Jaxson Blake Meadows and Harper June Meadows; brother, Robert Meadows; and a dear cousin, Melody VanDoren.

John William Hardin, age 35, of Springfield, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2021 at his home. Washington, KY with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Mr. Hardin was born February 18, 1986 in Springfield to Mr. Billy Joe Hardin of Springfield and the late Mrs. Reba Fernette Calvert Hardin. He worked as a carpenter and was a mechanic. He loved being outside and enjoyed his four wheelers and dirt bikes.

In addition to his mother Mr. Hardin is preceded in death by his brother, Charles Adam Hardin. Gary Dean Hale, age 76 of Ashland City, Tennessee, died Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at his son’s home in Pleasant View.

Mr. Hale was born on September 24, 1944 in Ashland City, Tennessee to the late Robert & Lois Choate Hale. He was retired after 40 years as a lab specialist. He loved to go boating, skiing, camping, and enjoyed woodworking. Gary loved to go watch his grandson play ball. He was a Christian.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Lora Hale; son, Brian Daniels; and daughter, Joy Perry.

Ms. Vincent was born December 29, 1976 in Nashville, TN to the late Gerald Nolan and Linda Stewart. She was a homemaker and also worked at Electrolux. She enjoyed shopping, watching crime shows and ghost shows but especially loved hanging out with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents Ms. Vincent is preceded in death by her grandson, Malcolm Grai Craig and her step-father, Sammy Ray Pewett. She is survived by her daughters, Lindsey Vincent of Joelton and Celsey Vincent of Pleasant View; sisters, Jessica (Melvin) Kimple of Springfield, Angela (Chris) Williams of Kingsport and step-sister, Amy (Joe) Parsons of Camden; step-mother, Peggy floral squareNolan of Greenbrier; aunt, Vickey (Russell) Dill of Chattanoog; and grandchild, Adalynn Rae Croom. Obituary for Robert Dodd

Robert Ernest “Bobby” Dodd, age 89, of Springfield, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 23, 2021.

A service celebrating his life will be held at a later date.

Bobby Dodd was the youngest of 15 children, being born January 2, 1932 in Springfield to the late William Byrd and Roberta Seay Dodd. He was retired from Ford Glass Plant. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving in the Korean War. He was a lifelong member of the Springfield First United Methodist Church. Bobby Dodd was also a 50 year plus Mason, being a member of Western Star Lodge # 9 in Springfield, the Scottish Rite of Nashville and a Shriner. He was a longtime member of the New Chapel Mens’ Club.

Bobby Dodd never met a stranger. He spent a lot of his 31 year retirement helping others. If you knew him at all he has probably done something for you. He fished as long as he could in between Mary Sue’s “honey do” lists. For a man who hated to travel, he got around….Florida, Mexico, the Grand Canyon, New York, London and other spots in between. If you asked, his favorite was Alaska.

Bobby had a sense of humor. He knew laughter could set you at ease and make any situation better. He loved to laugh and cut up. The world was a much better place with Bobby Dodd in it. He truly was one of a kind and will be missed.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Dodd is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Mary Sue Farmer Dodd. He is survived by his daughter, Denise (Larry) Dodd Fletcher of Springfield; his sons, Mike (Jan) Dodd of Vestavia Hills, AL and Jeff (Luis) Dodd of St. Augustine, FL; grandchildren, Jamie (Heather) Ayres and Libby floral squareKelly, and great-grandchildren, Gabe Kelly and Kasey Ayres. For the last 12 years he has enjoyed the friendship and companionship of Pat Long; and for that we are ever grateful.

Obituary for Bryan DeWayne Wilson

Bryan DeWayne Wilson was born August 15, 1990 in Springfield, Tennessee to the late Penny Y. Wilson and Reverend Timothy Paul Wilson.

Bryan, as a young child attended First Missionary Baptist Church where he was later baptized under the pastorship of Reverend Martin P. Winslow. As a young member, he sang in the Sunshine Choir and served as a Junior Usher.

Bryan attended Springfield High School and would later attend and graduate from East Robertson High School with the Class of 2008. Bryan was an outstanding athlete playing football for both high schools. Because of his size and athleticism on the field, his teammates nicknamed him “Big Bryan.”

Bryan was a gentle giant who loved his family, friends, and especially his children. He was always just a phone call away, if anything ever happened to you, you were sure to get a phone call or a visit. His first words would be, “Are you good”, “Are you straight,” or “Do you need anything.” His favorite saying is “You do know that, don’t you?” Bryan was surely loved and will truly be missed.

In addition to his mother, Bryan was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Mattie Dowlen Witt, maternal grandfather, Wesley Thomas (W. T.) Jernigan, and his paternal grandmother, Annie Frances Wilson.

Bryan departed this earthly life on May 23, 2021. He leaves to cherish his memories: his son, Cameron Wilson; daughter, K’layah Wilson; father, Reverend Timothy Paul Wilson; sister, Celesa Wilson; brother, Wesley Wilson all of Springfield, TN; three nephews, Devontavious Wilson, Wesley Wilson, Jr. and Kevin Butler, all of Springfield, TN; one niece, Kalaya Wilson of Springfield, TN; four aunts, Rita Bowens, Melissa (McKinzie) Black of Springfield, TN, Reba (Michael) Moore and Tina Stone of floral squareNashville, TN; three uncles Willie (Teresa) Wilson, Pastor Delmus Johnson, John (JoAnn) Jernigan; a host of devoted friends and cousins he loved like brothers and sisters.

Obituary for Sally Eckles

Mrs. Sally Knott Eckles, 97, died Friday May 21st at her home in Pleasant View, TN.

Visitation was from 2-7 Sunday, May 23, 2021 and again Monday, May 24, 2021 from 11am until the 1pm funeral service at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, MS. Burial followed at Lakewood South.

Mrs. Eckles was a lifelong resident of Mississippi until moving to Tennessee to live with her granddaughter in the summer of 2020.

Mrs. Eckles worked for 39 years at GE of Jackson before retiring in 1984.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Daniel Boone & Susie Knott; one son, Daniel Thomas; 1st husband, Perrin Thomas; 2nd husband, Gordon Cooper; 3rd husband, Harvey Eckles; and grandson, Jeff Thomas.

She is survived by son, Don Thomas of Saucier, MS; four grandchildren, Robert (Shelly) Thomas of Saucier, MS, Perrin (Susie) Thomas of Ocean Springs, MS, Greg (Jessica) Thomas of Henderson, KY, and Kaye (Brad) Stanley of Pleasant View, TN; two step-grandchildren, Richard (Lauren) Cooper of Baton Rouge, LA and Melanie (Blair) Cooper of Madison, MS; 7 great grandchildren; 19 great great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

One very special great-great-granddaughter, Bajah Lennox spent countless days entertaining her.

She loved being outdoors, gardening and tending to her flowers. Quilting was a passion and she made and gave away over 100 in the floral squarepast 40 years. She was a very selfless woman and was devoted to her family.

A very special thank you to Dr. Raymond Craciun and the entire staff of Northcrest Medical Center in Springfield, TN for taking extra care of a very special lady.

Obituary for Terri Leigh Waddle

Terri Leigh Waddle, age 59 of Hendersonville, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 21, 2021 after an extended illness.

Terri was a graduate of Hendersonville High School and lived in Hendersonville most of her life. She loved to travel, and she loved scrapbooking and cooking. She had lots of friends and loved getting together with them regularly. She was known to be always ready and willing to help others. She was a former member of Cornerstone Church, and a current member of Long Hollow Baptist Church. Being a devoted wife and loving mother, her husband and daughter were her whole life and she devoted her life and attention to them.

Terri is survived by her husband of 32 years, John Waddle; her daughter, Chelsea Waddle; and a sister, Wanda White.

Mrs. Randal Gail Cardwell, age 76 of Hendersonville, TN died Wednesday May 19, 2021 at the Residence at Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN.

Funeral services were held at 1 pm on Saturday May 22, 2021 in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Orlinda Cemetery. Scot Medsker, Shaun Medsker, Tyler Sappington, Clay Sappington, Logan Sappington and Steve Swain served as pallbearers. The family received friends on Saturday from 11 am until the hour of service at 1 pm.

Gail was born November 21, 1944 in Springfield, TN to the late Ranal Coleman and Maggie McClain Coleman. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, a homemaker in every sense of the word. Gail enjoyed making porcelain dolls, even sewing their clothes. She loved making things pretty. Gail loved to travel. She and Billie were able to visit many parts of the world.

Laurie Ann Keating, 58, of Springfield, passed from this life on Wednesday May 19, 2021 at NorthCrest Medical Center.

Her request was to be cremated and no services are planned at this time.

Laurie was born April 15, 1963 in Toronto, Canada. She worked, for many years, in the office at Highland Woodcrafters in Springfield. Laurie loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren as they were her life. She was preceded in death by her father: Donald Stewart. “We Lost Hollywood” -John Head Sr. Has Died, He Was 76

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – John R. Head, Sr., better know as “Hollywood,” has died, he was 76.  Hollywood, a businessman, and entrepreneur, was a fixture in the Springfield area, known for his business acumen and friendly demeanor, and of course, the car.

Hollywood died on Monday, May 17, 2021, at Tennova Healthcare in Clarksville, Tennessee.  Born December 23, 1944, Hollywood was a twin to the late Isaiah and Nevian Heard.

Hollywood received his education in the Clarksville Montgomery County School System. He was a member of Greater Whites Chapel CME where he sang in the choir.  He enjoyed pitching horseshoes, family gatherings and detailing vehicles.  “He was a happy-go-lucky person who didn’t meet a stranger,” his family said.

Smokey Barn News’ cameras encountered Hollywood in just about every parade in Robertson County. Rolling along in his beautiful pristine black custom Ford, he was impossible to miss. Hollywood would rarely miss a parade. In a brief impromptu drive-by interview in the 2015 Robertson County Fair parade, Hollywood said, “31 years today.” Click here to watch the interview on YouTube.

Viewing and Visitation was held Saturday, May 22, 2021, at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church from 9:00 am-12:00 pm with funeral services to follow at 12:00 pm.

Obituary for James Leroy Palmer

James Leroy Palmer, 84, of Springfield, passed away on Monday May 17, 2021 at Springfield Heights Assisted Living.

Graveside services were conducted Monday May 24th at 1:00 p.m. (EST) in the Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis, IN. Pallbearers will be Shawn Worley, Josh Hopkins, Geoff Preston, Jon Preston, Dennis Kleinman, and Nick Boyer. The family received friends at the graveside service on Monday.

Mr. Palmer was born August 26, 1936 in Auburn, IN to the late Kenneth Harry and Floreen Isabel Hess Palmer. He was a retired Construction Engineer, a member of ATO Fraternity, a former member of the Robertson County Senior Center Board of Director’s and was a member of Heads Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Palmer enjoyed woodworking, fishing, storytelling, and playing his ukulele. He had a great love for music, both listening and singing music, and had sung baritone in a Barbershop Quartet for many years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Teena White Palmer.

Mr. Palmer is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Trea Hampton of Zephyrhills, FL, Laura and Dennis Kleinman of North Vernon, IN, and Samantha and Shawn Worley of Springfield, by his stepchildren: Kevin White, Trey White, Wendell White, and Helen floral squareWhite Balthrop, by his sister: Joan Preston of Villages, FL, by 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Esterlene Barnett, age 91, of Chapmansboro, Tennessee, died Saturday, May 22, 2021 at her home.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 o’clock am, Tuesday, May 25th, at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View with Bro. Zach Vickery officiating.

Burial followed in Heads Cemetery with her grandsons serving as pallbearers.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00PM Monday, May 24th, and again on Tuesday beginning at 10:00AM until the hour of service at 11:00AM.

Mrs. Barnett was born on November 12, 1929 in Robertson County, Tennessee to the late Robert & Alice Gower Ellis. She was a loving and hardworking homemaker; sewed beautiful handmade quilts, and was affectionately known to her grandchildren as “Granny Bee”. She was a member of Oaklawn Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, E.J. Barnett; infant son, Ennis Richard Barnett; grandson, Landon Ross; and brother, Don Ellis.

Anastasia Nicole “Staci” Kittell, age 31, of Adams, passed away Wednesday at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 24, 2021 at 2pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell funeral Home in Springfield with Bro. Nicholes Collier officiating. Burial followed in the Bellwood Cemetery with Donnie Kittell, Branon Jaggers, Elijah Couch, Johnathan Couch, Joe Kittell and Jay Walker serving as pallbearers.

Visitation was held at the funeral home on Monday from 10am until the hour of service at 2pm.

Ms. Kittell was born September 17, 1989 in Battle Creek, MI to Joseph and Shirley Toler Kittell of Adams. She loved spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews and was a member of the Abundant Life Outreach Church. She enjoyed training horses, sewing, photography, singing, shopping for others and country and gospel music.

Ms. Kittell is preceded in death by her grandparents, Lillian Toler and Rosemary Kittell and her brother, Robert Kittell.

Terri Leigh Waddle, age 59 of Hendersonville, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 21, 2021 after an extended illness.

Terri was a graduate of Hendersonville High School and lived in Hendersonville most of her life. She loved to travel, and she loved scrapbooking and cooking. She had lots of friends and loved getting together with them regularly. She was known to be always ready and willing to help others. She was a former member of Cornerstone Church, and a current member of Long Hollow Baptist Church. Being a devoted wife and loving mother, her husband and daughter were her whole life and she devoted her life and attention to them.

Terri is survived by her husband of 32 years, John Waddle; her daughter, Chelsea Waddle; and a sister, Wanda White.

He was very talented with repairing things and could fix almost anything.

Obituary for Charley Ray And Martha Jean Harris

Charley Ray Harris, age 85, and his wife, Martha Jean, age 84, of Joelton, Tennessee, entered into the presence of Jesus within minutes of each other while holding hands on Monday, May 17, 2021 at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.

Funeral services for both were conducted at 1 o’clock pm, Saturday, May 22nd, at New Hope Free Will Baptist Church in Joelton with Bro. Corey Minter, Bro. David Royalty, and Rev. Roger Senechal officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Christopher Harris, Blake Harris, Robert Lee Hand, Doug Crocker, Carl Chambliss, Bruce Chambliss, Scotty Chambliss, Mark Chambliss, Buddy Harris, Dale Turrentine, Don Amos, Gary Chance, Ray Pillow, David Simpson, Doug Vann, and Gilford Walker.

Following the funeral services, their remains were cremated and a private family burial at a later date.

The family received friends at the church on Saturday, May 22nd, beginning at 11:00AM until the hour of service at 1:00PM.

Mr. Charley Ray was born in Joelton, Tennessee on March 21, 1936 to the late Charley Burnis “Cotton” & Eunice Bell Turrentine Harris. After college, he taught for three years at Glencliff High School in Nashville. He then began his banking career at Whites Creek Bank & Trust where he eventually became Vice-President. Afterwards, he opened and designed United Citizens Bank in Ashland City. Upon leaving there, he opened, along with Jerry Garrett and Winfield Dunn, First Cumberland Bank in Madison. After this, he continued his career in mortgage lending and enjoyed working at Pebble Brook golf course.

Mrs. Martha Jean was born in Nashville, Tennessee on December 20, 1936 to the late Ernest Edwards & Laura Mae Hand Williams. She was a homemaker, and owner/operator of Ashland City Office Supply & Hallmark Cards that supplied books to Cheatham County Schools. She enjoyed crafts and created Memories in Glass.

Mr. & Mrs. Harris were married for sixty-five years and were both members of New Hope Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Charley Ray is preceded in death by sisters, Sue Helen Osborne, and Bonnie Ruth Vann. He is survived by brother, William Richard “Buddy” Harris.

In addition to her parents, Martha Jean is preceded in death by brother, Ernest Edwards Williams, Jr.
