Obituary for Ricky L. Chatman

Ricky L. Chatman was born March 20, 1960 in Springfield, Tennessee to the late Neely Nathaniel “Knocker” Chatman and the late Christine Dowlen Chatman. He transitioned from his Earthly Home to his Heavenly Home on Sunday, October 18, 2020 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Ricky professed Christ as his Savior at a young age and united with Greater South Baptist Church. He enjoyed attending, worshipping, and praising God and did so until his health prevented him.

He was employed in various jobs with most recently being at Unarco as a forklift driver. He was a 1978 graduate of Springfield High School where he was an outstanding football player. He went on to play football at Vanderbilt University and Western Kentucky University where he was a record holder for kick-offs and punt returns for touchdowns at one time in the state.

He was married to Teresa McKissack and two children were born to that union; one son, Ronald “Jolly” Chatman, preceded him in death.

In addition to his parents, and son, he was also preceded in death by one brother, Joe H. Chatman.

He leaves to cherish his memories: children, Ricky Lynn Williams of Clarksville, TN and Rechelle Chatman of Montgomery, AL; seven grandchildren; sisters, Gladys (Joe) Fort, Pamela (Tim) Baker, Teresa (Robert) Besser, Katherine, Linda, Kay and Tina Chatman, and Brenda Payne; brothers, James (Gaynell), Nathaniel, Wayne, floral squareBobby, and Willie Chatman of Springfield, TN; special friend, Sagan French; a very devoted nephew, Keenan Chatman, and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral service was Friday, October 23, 2020, 1 pm at First Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Ricky Summers, Eulogy; Interment: Restlawn Memorial Garden, Cedar Hill, TN.

Obituary for Kimberly Dawn Winters

Age 54 of White House passed away Sunday, October 18, 2020 at her home. She was born August 15, 1966 in Nashville, Tennessee to Paul O’Kelley and Wanda Pat Shoemake O’Kelley. She worked as a homemaker and was the matriarch of her family. She hosted all of the family parties and holidays and cooked and decorated everything with care and love. Her special touch that she added to everything will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her sister, Diedre Curtis. She is survived by her husband of 34-1/2 years, Todd Winters; son, Peyton Winters; daughters, Heather (Dustin) Sellards and Tiffany (Bo) Munday, all of White House, TN; father, Paul O’Kelley, Gallatin, TN; mother, Pat Scott, Nashville, TN; 5 grandchildren, Shaelyn, Brock, Dalton, Adrian and Bennett.

Elizabeth “Big Sissy” Roach, 88, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday October 18, 2020 at The Waters of Robertson in Springfield. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday October 22nd at 2:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Brother Chad Diehl officiating. Interment will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Phillip Roach, Tim “Buster” Roach, Jr., Chad Truelove, J.W. Frazier, II, A.J. Roach, Jimmy Henley, Troy Henley, and Tyler Henley serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Roach was born December 31, 1931 in Springfield to the late Sidney and Beatrice Scott Bilyeu. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Church of Christ. She spent her life taking care of her family and seeing that their needs were met. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Porter Roach, Sr., and by her children: Deborah Roach, Melissa Stagner, Donald Ray Roach, Frank Arnold Roach, Mark Roach, and Kenneth Roach.

Mrs. Roach is survived by her sons: Porter Roach, Jr., of Russellville, KY, Tim (Sheena) Roach, Sr., of Springfield, Allen Roach of Portland, Anthony Dewayne Roach of Sarasota, FL, and floral squareRobbie (Kasandra) Roach of White House, by her daughters: Lois (James) Henley of Springfield, Joyce Klarhn of Springfield, and Teresa Bellman of Cedar Hill, by her brothers: Charles and Joseph Bilyeu both of Springfield, by her sisters: Frankie Hunter, Tiney Hand, and Brenda Douglas all of Springfield, by 23 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.

Obituary for Kevin Michael Hooper

Date of Death or Service Oct 18, 2020. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon, October 18, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of the Taylor Funeral Home. Bro. Stuart Brooks officiated. Place of rest is in the Tidwell Cemetery. Visitation was Saturday evening, October 17th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday beginning at 12 Noon until time of service.

Kevin, age 43, of Springfield, TN died unexpectedly on Saturday October 10, 2020.

He was born in Dickson County, son of Renia Davidson Pack and Randy Lee Hooper. He was a graduate from Carroll County High School. Kevin was an appliance tech with the Lee Company. He was the grandson of the late Roy and Gladys Davidson and Gene and Sarah Lee Hooper. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Hope and a brother J. P. Pack. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dickson.

Kevin loved his God, his family, and his friends. He has always been one of those “Happy” guys that was selfless with family and friends. He was a hard worker unless it came to HVAC, just wasn’t his thing. He was a loving husband and father. In his spare time he followed the Nashville Predators and was a great fan of them. He learned from his grandfather, Gene Hooper, the art of baking. He loved to spent time making his grandfathers famous homemade bread. Kevin was a faithful friend to many always bringing a smile to those around him. Also he had that gifted talent of never meeting a stranger.

Obituary for Ann Catherine Ellis Gibbs

Ann Catherine Ellis Gibbs, 86, of Springfield, passed from this life on Monday October 12, 2020 at AHC Healthcare in Clarksville.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday October 15th at 2:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Tim Harris officiating. Interment followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Carl Brent Ellis, John Brandon Ellis, Travis Dylan McCreary, Jacob Lloyd Gezley, Hunter Gibbs, and Anthony Wilk serving as pallbearers. The family received friends on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 12 noon until service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gibbs was born January 30, 1934 in Springfield to the late Walter and Nealie Nixon Ellis. She was a retired activities director and social worker from Elmhurst Nursing Home and was a member of Eastland Heights Baptist Church. Mrs. Gibbs graduated from Springfield High School Class of 1952. She loved the Lady Vols and anything to do with softball. She was named National Director of the Year for the USSSA Softball League.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Carl Gibbs. Mrs. Gibbs is survived by her sons: Carl Timothy “Jake” Gibbs and wife Judy of Warrior, AL, Walter Edward floral square“Ed” Gibbs of Cottontown, by her daughters: Kimberly Ann Gezley and husband Bubba of Springfield, Patti Frances Gibbs of Springfield, by her grandchildren: Katelyn (Erica) Gibbs Edinger, Hunter Gibbs, Loni (Bo) Mantooth, Jacob (Claire) Gezley, Brandon Ellis, Brent Ellis, and Dylan McCreary, and by her six great grandchildren and the 7th soon to arrive.

Obituary for Mary Lillian Emmett

Age 87 of Cottontown went home to be with the Lord Friday, October 16, 2020 at Hendersonville Medical Center. She was born June 11, 1933 in Big Sandy, Tennessee to William Gulley & Iva Bell Barnes Beecham. She was a clerical worker for the state of Tennessee before her retirement. Mrs. Emmett was known for her big heart. She fiercely loved her husband, son, sister and all of her family. She sang for many years with the Emmett trio and was a member of the Church of the First Born in Hartsville, TN.

She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James G. Emmett; son, James Jeffrey Emmett, both of Cottontown, TN; sister, Retha Fay (Rev. Jack) Stone, White House, TN; Uncle, Cliff (Bertie) Barnes, Cleveland, OH; Nephew, David Stone, Indianapolis, IN.

Kathy Lynn Stults, age 59, of Goodlettsville, TN, passed away October 16, 2020 at Skyline Medical Center after an extended illness. She was born December 19, 1960 in Nashville, TN the youngest daughter of Priscilla Rosalie Woods Stults and James Stults, Jr. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Vicki Kay Cranford.

A Celebration of her life will be held, Tuesday, October 20, 2020, 7:00 PM at Austin & Bell Funeral Home, Greenbrier, TN with a time for friends to gather and visit with the family prior to the service from 5:00PM-7:00PM.

Kathy loved all things outdoors. She was an excellent swimmer and loved camping and lying out in the sun. She was a Bob Marley and Classic Rock fan. Family gatherings during any of the holidays were something she always looked forward to attending and she enjoyed cooking too. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart and she was always interested in the things they were doing.

Debbie was a Christian and a true Conservative, having already cast her vote for the November election.

Obituary for Ann Baggett Moulton

Ann Baggett Moulton passed away on Sunday October 11, 2020. She was the only child born to Reverend Roy C. and Annie Odil Moore on May 6, 1933. She was preceded in death by her husbands: Harry C. Baggett and Bobby Moulton, and by her stepson: Kevin Moulton.

Ann was the daughter of a Methodist minister. This instilled in her a great love for her Lord and His beloved church. Ann lived an active and productive life touching family and friends with her generous unselfish heart. She worked many years for Dr. Elder and enjoyed both sewing and dancing.

Ann delighted in being with family. She is survived by her daughters: Ava (Randy) Chance of Goodlettsville, Harriet (Ray) Aaron of Gallatin, and Beth (Lynn) Reeves of Cedar Hill, by her grandchildren: Bryan (Cayce) Chance, Brent (Jennifer) Chance, Holly (Mac) Hurley, Rachel (Justin) Fontenot, Russell (Brandi) Aaron, Kyle Reeves, and Kurt (Mackenzie) Reeves, by her 13 great grandchildren, by her caretaker and special friend: Paul Beckleheimer of Springfield, by her sister-in-law: Mildred Baggett of Cedar Hill, and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday October 15th at 11:00 a.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home. Interment followed in Elmwood Cemetery with her grandsons serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Adult Sunday School class at Woodland Street United Methodist Church, where she was a member. The family received friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 4 until 8 PM and Thursday from 10 AM until the hour of service.

Emily was born January 24, 1968 in Nashville to the late Vernon King and Emma Jean Pinson Pitt, Jr. She was a graduate of Hendersonville High School Class of 1986 and then went on to receive her Bachelor of Nursing degree from Austin Peay State University in 1990. Emily loved cats, reading, and her life evolved around her beloved husband, Tim Todd, who died in July of this year.

Obituary for Bobby Lee Birdwell

Bobby Lee Birdwell, 82, of Greenbrier, passed away on Tuesday October 6, 2020.

His remains were cremated.

He was the seventh child and the fourth son born to Delwin and Lucille “Dixie” Prince Birdwell on March 26, 1938 in the Barren Plains community. He was educated in the Robertson County schools. Mr. Birdwell served in the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army, serving time in England and Thailand. He was of the Baptist faith and was baptized in the creek at the third iron bridge. Mr. Birdwell was a mechanic and enjoyed restoring old cars. His special joy was a 1937 and 1939 Chevy and a 1939 Pontiac.

Mr. Birdwell is survived by a daughter: Debbie Green of Spring, TX, by his five sisters: Alma Owen of White House, Ruth Ricks of Greenbrier, Helen Baggett of Greenbrier, Marie Haley of Goodlettsville, and Lucille Bell of Ridgetop, and by his two brothers: David Birdwell of Greenbrier and Leonard Birdwell of Cleveland, TN, and by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Robert Eugene “Robbie” Traughber, age 29 of Springfield, died Monday, October 5, 2020 at Skyline Medical Center.

Graveside services were conducted Friday, October 9, 2020 at 1:00 PM in Elmwood Cemetery with Tim Harris officiating. There was no visitation prior to the graveside service.

Mr. Traughber was born August 9, 1991 in Springfield to Jeffrey Dale Traughber Sr. and the late Rebecca Bowen West. He worked for A & G Tree Service and enjoyed his leisure time fishing.

He is survived by his father, Jeffrey Dale Traughber, Sr. of Adams; son, Jake Traughber of Sevierville; grandmother, Delores Traughber of Springfield; girlfriend, Kimberly Pennington of Bowling Green, KY; brother, Jeffrey Dale Traughber, Jr. of Ashland City; aunt, Lori floral squareNeedham of Springfield; and cousins, Kaitlyn Gregory and Tyler Jackson.

Obituary for Louise Branch

Louise Robertson Branch, age 98, of Springfield, passed away Friday, October 9, 2020 at NHC Healthcare.

A private Interment was held in the Elmwood Cemetery. No visitation was held prior to the private Interment.

Mrs. Branch was born June 5, 1922 in Greenbrier, TN to the late Hubert and Susan Frances Murrah Robertson. She worked at Cheatham Park School in the Cafeteria for 32 years and was a member of the Springfield Baptist Church. Mrs. Branch was a member of the “Kitchen Band” and had volunteered over 41,500 hours at Jesse Holman Jones Hospital and NorthCrest Medical Center.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Branch is preceded in death by her husband, Lacy H. Branch, daughter, Helen Louise Tarpley, brothers, Herbert Robertson, Jr. and William Henry Robertson, and her floral squaregrandson, Steven Phillip Branch.

Mrs. Branch is survived by her son and his wife, Steven and Betty Branch of Springfield; sister, Ann Pyle of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Crystal Tidwell, Susan Brown and 5 great-grandchildren.

William Samuel Balthrop, age 77 of Chapmansboro, Tennessee, died Friday, October 9, 2020 at NorthCrest Medical Center in Springfield.

Funeral services were held at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View at 11 o’ clock am on Monday, October 12th, with Bro. Billy Ellis officiating. Burial followed at Heads Cemetery in Cedar Hill with family serving as pallbearers.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 1PM until 5PM on Sunday, October 11th, and again on Monday from 9:00AM until the hour of service at 11:00AM.

Mr. Balthrop was born on February 27, 1943, in Chapmansboro, Tennessee to the late R.W. and Lottie M. Black Balthrop. He was retired after 30 years from A.O Smith. He loved working and being on the farm, but his greatest love was going to auctions to find a great deal. William was a member of Heads Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, floral squareCharles Balthrop; nephew, Jeff Balthrop; and niece, Fawn Watts Ellis.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bonnie Balthrop; sons, Greg Balthrop, Ron (Helen) Balthrop; sisters, Judy (Loel) Watts, Sue (Johnny) Palmore; and grandchildren, Caroline and Olivia Balthrop.

Obituary for Ronald Elton Denton

Age 76 of Cross Plains passed away Friday, October 9, 2020 at his home. He was born April 28, 1944 in Ypsilanti, MI to Christopher Dorris & Sarah Elizabeth Denton. He was the owner/operator of Goodlettsville Rent All. Mr. Denton never met a stranger, had a heart of gold but was tougher than nails. He enjoyed traveling and loved casinos, especially playing blackjack.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ralph Denton and John Denton. Obituary for Lorrie Payne

Lorrie Hollis Payne, age 56 of Joelton, Tennessee died Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.

Her remains will be cremated and there are no services planned at this time.

Lorrie was born on February 1, 1964 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late G.W. and Geraldine Goolsby Hollis. She had worked in accounts receivables at Bridgestone, Methodist Publishing House, and recently at A.O. Smith. She loved to cook, especially meatloaf, loved to dance and was a good, big sister. She was a Christian.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Ricky David Hollis.

Obituary for Carolyn Louise Littrell

Age 78 of Cottontown went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Signature Health Care of Portland. She was born August 19, 1942 in Franklin, KY to Harold O. & Lolita Vera Bush Charlton. Mrs. Littrell put herself through Business School. After receiving her certificate, she worked for the Department of the Navy in Washington, D.C. during John F. Kennedy’s presidency. She was proud of the fact that she had met the President. She was later employed as a doctor’s secretary at the Indiana State Hospital. She was a loving and supportive wife and mother and will be greatly missed by her family. She had been attending Portland Church of the Nazarene.

She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, TJ Oakes; second husband, Duane Littrell; 2 sisters, Nancy Charlton and Sue Ann Ridge. She is survived by 3 sons, Thomas “Jay” (Andrea) Oakes, Hagerstown, IN, Steven L. (Rinda Kieffer) Oakes, Losantville, IN and David A. (Melissa Ruble) Oakes, Lynn, IN; daughter, Carol Lynn (Larry) Biggs, Cottontown, TN; brother, Thomas (Julia) Charlton, Richmond, IN; one sister; 7 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren, including Duane (Beth) Biggs, Andrew (Stephanie) Biggs and Timothy Biggs, all of Portland, TN.

Obituary for Jerry Hancock

Jerry Lynn Hancock, age 77, of Springfield, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at The Waters of Springfield.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 12, 2020 at 1pm at the South Haven Baptist Church with Dr. Frank Gagliano officiating. Burial followed in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Visitation was held at the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield on Sunday, October 11, 2020 from 1-5pm and at the church on Monday from 12pm until the hour of service at 1pm.

Mr. Hancock was born June 25, 1943 in Springfield to the late James Henry and Georgia Christine Wilkerson Hancock. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and worked as an Air Force Air Traffic Controller for many years. He loved his family, Vanderbilt Sports, including football and basketball, and was a member of the South Haven Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents Mr. Hancock is preceded in death by his grandson, Dorrian Alexander Godfrey.

Mr. Hancock is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia Wendell Hancock; son, Jerry (Angela) Hancock, Jr. of Murfreesboro; daughter, Tish (William) Hancock Godfrey of Clarksville; grandchildren, Annastazia Elizabeth Godfrey Ganas, Jade Lyn floral squareGodfrey and Alexzandria Leilani Godfrey; and great-grandchild, Tatianna Elizabeth Ganas.

Obituary for Ernie Wenczl

Ernest “Ernie” Wenczl, age 91 of Pleasant View, Tennessee died Monday, October 5, 2020 at his home.

Mr. Wenczl was born on August 4, 1929 in Magyarovar, Hungary to the late Gustav and Elisabeth Wenczl. He was retired from State Industries where he worked for over 30 years as Vice President of Product Development & Research. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and he loved to cook and had a passion for music.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by the mother of his children, Èva Wenczl; brother, Stephen Wenczl; and a nephew, Barnabas Nagy.

floral squareHe is survived by his wife, Sandra Wenczl; daughters, Edie Wenczl, Èva “Kuki” Lewis (Jack Hohimer) and Esther Stewart (Lee); sister, Olga Nagy; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Joseph, Alex, Emme, Estee (Todd) , William (Kristin), and Jonathan; two great-grandchildren; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
