Obituary for Cordelia Ann Hartley Vernon

Cordelia Ann Hartley Vernon, age 75 of Pleasant View, Tennessee, died Sunday, February 5, 2023 at her home.

Funeral services will be conducted at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View at 1:00PM on Saturday, February 18th, with Bro. Randy Riggs officiating. Burial will follow in EverRest of Cheatham with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00AM until the hour of service at 1:00PM.

Mrs. Vernon was born on March 9, 1947 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Everett Daniel & Clara Doss Hartley. She was a homemaker who loved her family very much. She was always helping her husband, Larry on the road as a truck driver, driving duo and solo. She helped out with his crews and also took care of his secretarial needs. She was very organized and loved to knit and sew.

floral squareIn addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Vernon and a brother, Danny Hartley, Jr.

Survivors include her son, Tracy Hartley (Kim Gregory) and a granddaughter, Shyanne Hartley.

Troyce Ann Gupton, age 84, of Clarksville, Tennessee, died Saturday, February 4, 2023 at her home.

Funeral services will be conducted at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View at 2:00PM on Wednesday, February 8th, with Bro. Larry Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in Good Springs Cemetery with her grandsons serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Nicholson, Reggie Nicholson, and Rick Nicholson.

The family will receive friends at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View on Tuesday, February 7th from 4:00PM until 8:00PM and again on Wednesday from 10:00AM until the hour of service at 2:00PM.

Mrs. Gupton was born on May 9, 1938, in Coopertown, Tennessee, to the late Dock & Viola Woodall Nicholson. She was a homemaker for many years then later became a Certified Nursing Assistant and retired as Activity Director for Montgomery County Nursing Home. She was a member of Hilldale Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Gupton; and brothers, Wallace Nicholson and Natt Nicholson.

Obituary for Steven Robert Calaway

Steven Robert Calaway, age 49 of Springfield, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at the Waters of Springfield.

His remains were cremated and the family held a visitation on Saturday from 2:00 until 4:00 PM at the Robertson County Funeral Home.

Steven was born August 29, 1973 in Aurora, IL. He was a truck driver. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, and talking. His family said that he was very outgoing and loved telling jokes. He enjoyed being with the other residents at the Waters of Springfield and he also loved animals, especially horses.

He is survived by his mother, Shirley Harding Calaway (Linus) Morgan of Springfield; sister, Tammy Calaway of Clarksville; nephew, Christopher (Kiley) Calaway; niece, Cierra (Brian) Burgess; great nephews, Liam and Haydon Calaway; great niece, Bristal Calaway; aunt, Misty Harding; and cousin, Joshua Harding.

Obituary for Linda Dillard Dean

Linda Dillard Dean, 87, of Springfield, passed from this life on Monday January 30, 2023, at Morningside of Springfield.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday February 11th at 11:00 a.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Reverend Alicia Burton and Tim Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery with Larry Dean, Chris Dean, Thomas Shetter, Bob Shetter, Walter Dean, Park Roach, Connor Dean, Emily Roach, Alex Dean, and John Dillard serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday February 10th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday February 11th from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Linda was born February 5, 1935, in Springfield, to the late Ernest “Jack” and Nevie Rawls Dillard. She was a graduate of Springfield High School Class of 1953 and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree from Murray State University. She was a longtime member of Central Christian Church in Springfield, where she served in many areas of the church and was an Elder Emeritus. Because Linda loved Springfield and Robertson County, she was active in many different organizations. She was a golden member of the Wednesday Study Club, she was named Robertson County Business Woman of the year in 2001 by the Robertson County Career Women (RCCW), she was a trustee and former board chairperson for the Glen Memorial Women’s Club, she was a member of the Robertson County History Museum, where she formerly served as a director for 18 years, she was a member of the Robertson County Historical Society, she worked with the Cumberland Valley Girl Scouts for many years and was awarded a Lifetime Membership, and she was a member of the former Robertson County Choral Society and enjoyed singing in their annual performance of The Messiah.

Linda loved working on genealogy, which led to her being a member of the Daughters of American Colonists (DAC). During her membership, she served as Honorary National Vice President, Blue Ridge Sections National Vice President, National Historian, National Recording Secretary, Honorary Tennessee State Regent, Tennessee State Regent, State First Vice Regent, State Librarian, State Corresponding Secretary, Chapter Regent. In her spare time Linda enjoyed playing bridge, reading a variety of books, and writing poetry but most of all she loved sharing time with her family and friends.

floral squareIn addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother: Jack Dillard, and by her sister and brother-in-law: Mary Sue and Vernon Johnson, Jr. Linda is survived by her husband of 65 years: Thomas Richard “Dick” Dean of Springfield, by her son and daughter-in-law: Ken and Julie Dean of Miami, FL, by her daughter and son-in-law: Karen Dean Burke and Stephen Burke of Nashville, by her grandchildren: Thomas Park Roach and wife Andrea, Emily Dean Roach, Connor Monroe Dean, and Alexander Thomas Dean, by her great granddaughter: Grace Roach, and by her sister-in-law: Carol Dillard of Clarksville.

Obituary for Joyce Faye Stroud Head

Joyce Faye Stroud Head, age 85, of Adams, died Monday, January 30, 2023, at Oak Pointe Assisted Living in Adams.

Funeral services were conducted on Friday, February 3, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Bro. Ed Baumgarten officiating. Burial followed in Bellwood Cemetery with Will Vogle, Matt Vogle, Dustin York, Jacob Head, Scotty Cavender, Mark Bourne, Don Head, and Jeff Ayers serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers were Jimmy Fletcher, Ronnie Strange, and Bobby Dean Bagby. The family received friends on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and again on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 1:00 p.m.

Mrs. Head was born on February 6, 1937, to the late Mitchel and Johnnie LaVerne Edwards Stroud. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband; Billy Mac Head, her son; Garry Mac Head, and her brother; Ed Stroud. Mrs. Head was a member of the Adams United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Eastern Star. She loved spending time and reading to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Head loved cooking, flowers, reading to children in the Adams Community, and was a member of a special group of ladies from her high school days at Jo Byrns known as the “Fab 5”. She worked for many years at Bell School, and when she retired, she was a mail processing clerk for the United States Postal Service.

Cornelia Ann O’Bryan-Shreeve, age 85, of Goodlettsville, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Goodlettsville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11am Tuesday, February 7, 2023 in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Greenbrier with Bro. Brandon Pugh officiating. Burial will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Sammy Kirby, Brayden Goostree, Brian Shreeve, Jeff Shreeve, Brian Kirby and Mike Donaho serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be Gavin Goostree.

The family will receive friends from 4-7pm Monday and again from 10am until time of the service at 11am Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. O’Bryan-Shreeve was born June 14, 1937 in Cedar Hill, TN to the late Jarrett Ivory and Alberta Lee Anderson Kirby. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Greenbrier, sang in the church choir for 40 years and loved The Gaithers music.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. O’Bryan-Shreeve was preceded in death by her first husband, Charlie O’Bryan, and her second husband, James Shreeve; and a brother, Ray Kirby.

Age 86 of Cross Plains passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at his home. He was born November 12, 1936 in Nashville, TN to William Keel & Bertha Mamie Huddleston Barnes. He worked as a printer and operated Barnes Screen Graphics. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, both with guns and bows and arrows. He was of the Church of God faith.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard Dale Barnes; brother, William Leon Barnes. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 68 years, Mary Catherine Barnes, Cross Plains, TN; sons, Daniel Gregory Barnes, Cross Plains, TN and Terry Wayne (Sherry) Barnes, Greenbrier, TN; daughter, Christine Carol (Mitchell) Smith; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild on the way.

Pat Bunch Price, age 83 of Cross Plains passed away Monday, January 30, 2023 at her home. She was born June 22, 1939 in Zanesville, Ohio to Charles & Gladys Rush Hendershot. Pat was a gifted songwriter, who has written many songs over the past 50+ years. She had been employed by Warner Brothers, Sony and ASCP to just name a few. She penned the words to “I’ll Still Be Loving You”, a Number 1 selling hit for Restless Heart, “I Want My Goodbye Back” recorded by Ty Herndon and “Wild One” sung by Faith Hill. She also loved collecting antique dolls.

Shirley Fay Apple Chase, 86, of Adairville, KY, passed from this life on Friday January 27, 2023, at her home.

Graveside services were conducted Friday February 3rd at 2:00 p.m. (EST) in the Sherwood Memorial Park in Jonesboro, GA. The family received friends on Wednesday February 1st from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Robertson County Funeral Home.

Mrs. Chase was born July 24, 1936, in Springfield, to the late James F. and Ola Mae Carroll Apple. She was a retired LPN and was a member of Hope Apostolic Church in Springfield. Mrs. Chase was a Genealogist, and after extensive research in her family genealogy she wrote a book entitled “Climbing the Apple Tree”. She also enjoyed fishing, camping, working puzzles, spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren, and just living life to the fullest.

Gary Clifford Wills “Doc”, age 81 of Chapmansboro, Tennessee, died Sunday, January 29, 2023 at his home.

A memorial service was held at 12 o’ clock noon on Saturday, February 4, at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View. Burial of remains were in Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on Thursday, February 9th at 11:00am.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Saturday, from 11:00AM until the time of service at noon.

Mr. Wills was born on March 16, 1941, in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Clifford & Irene Estes Wills. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Vietnam War and was a member of the VFW in Clarksville.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Reed.

Obituary for Dale Marie Billings

Age 83 of Greenwood, SC, formerly of East Nashville, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood, SC. She was born December 11, 1939 in Nashville, TN to Rhodes & Alice Dearman Graham. She worked as a technician for Bell South and also traveled with her husband, Jasper as he was a Colonel auctioneer. Dale was a proud alumnus of East Nashville High School and was proud to call Nashville her home. She was a people person and loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed thrifting, antique shopping, traveling to the beach and cooking for her family. She also enjoyed watching comedy shows and had a great sense of humor. She was a devout Christian who enjoyed serving others. Dale was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Jasper Newton Billings; brother, Morris; 3 sisters, Virginia, Thelma and Addean. She is survived by her son; Buck (Catia) Billings, Greenwood, SC; daughter, Tina Louise (Larry) Davis, Cross Plains, TN; step-sons, Darrell Billings, Atlanta, GA, Gary Billings, Nashville, TN and Keith Billings, Franklin, TN; 4 grandchildren, Jasper Billings, James Billings, Savannah Thiem and Brittany Davis; 6 step-grandchildren, Justin, Elizabeth, Marcella, David, Melody and Sharon; 2 great-grandchildren, Karson and Emma.

Mr. Bonczek was born on November 8, 1955, in Elmira, New York, to the late Stanley & Rita Kenchesski Bonczek. He was a retired salesman who loved and lived for his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Bonczek.

Obituary for Brandon Homer Hunley

Brandon Homer Hunley, age 53, of Joelton, Tennessee, passed away on January 22, 2023.

Brandon was born in Nashville, Tennessee and was no stranger to the city of Nashville and Tennessee as a whole. He spent the majority of his life working with his father. Most weekends, if not at a Titan’s game, Brandon could be found at the lake house fishing, repairing boats, working on the house, playing with Chastin, playing with the dogs, and cooking an AMAZING meal. Brandon lived life to its fullest. He was a beautiful soul and will be missed by all who knew him.

Brandon was preceded in death by his mother Sandra Kay Young.

Obituary for James Randall “Skeeter” Stout

James Randall “Skeeter” Stout, age 67 of Adairville, KY, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, January 30, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home with his brother, Jeff Henley officiating. Burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery in Adairville with Chris Jackson, Trinity Stout, Nolen Stout, Josh Stout, Donnie Wallace, and Jerry Wallace serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Roy Maddle, Roger Daniels, Wayne Stout, and Bo Spencer. The family received friends at the funeral home Monday from 10 AM until the hour of service.

Skeeter was born March 6, 1955 in Evansville, IN to the late Willie Stout and the late Agnes Calista Holloway Bright. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Jackson Stout. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a plumber in construction having worked for Jerry Bruce Plumbing and Hutch Pools. He loved his family which was the most important thing to him. He also loved his dog, Cole. He enjoyed canoeing, pitching horseshoes, dinking beer, and riding his Harley motorcycle.

Douglas Boyd, age 84 of Ashland City, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.

Funeral services were conducted at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View at 2:00PM on Saturday, January 28th, with Marvis West officiating. Burial followed at EverRest of Cheatham with his nephews serving as pallbearers.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Saturday, from 11:00AM until the hour of service at 2:00PM.

Mr. Boyd was born on July 3, 1938 in Ashland City, Tennessee to the late George & Jessie Cothren Boyd. Douglas graduated from Cheatham County High school where he was an outstanding football and basketball player. He was inducted into the Cheatham County Sports Hall of Fame in 2021. Douglas retired from the Tennessee Department of Transportation after 43 years of service. He loved to spend time in the garden, go to Kentucky, fish, hunt, go to any auction and play golf. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, James, Clarence, Jewel, Tony and Jimmy Boyd; sisters Katie Darrow, Edith Hargrove and Virginia Gibbs.

Obituary for Clyde Bedwell

Clyde Bedwell, age 92, of Greenbrier, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2023 at NHC Springfield.

Funeral services were conducted at 2pm Monday, January 30, 2023 in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Greenbrier with Bro. Ken Castleberry and Bro. Jon Briggs officiating. Burial followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Michael Boyce, Michael Peterson, Mike Vaccarella, Jerry Gregory, Monty Gregory and Ivan Bell serving as pallbearers.

The family received friends from 10am until time of the service at 2pm Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Bedwell was born October 27, 1930 to the late Ora Foden and Essie Marie Ellis Bedwell. He retired from the glass plant at Ford Motor Company.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Bedwell was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Leo “Kitty” Bedwell.

Gary was born January 5, 1953 in Ypsilanti, MI to the late Cranford and Nellie Elliott Wehunt.

Obituary for Tim Head

Timothy Kent Head, age 61, of White House, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.

Funeral services were held Friday, January 27, 2023 at 2pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Brother Kenneth Wayne Head officiating. Burial followed in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Brandon Head, Eric Head, Austin Head, Justin Head, Randy Head, Jeffrey Head, and Keith Head serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Bruce Head, Carney Felts, Timmy Crutcher, Billy Corbin, Joe Maxey and Marc Garner.

Visitation was held at the funeral home on Friday from 11am until the hour of service at 2pm.

Mr. Head was born June 14, 1961 in Springfield to the late Mr. Don Keith Head, Sr. and Mrs. Catherine Cohea Head of Coopertown. He worked in the Finance Department at Stewart Williams Company and was the co-owner of H&H Motors with his father. He enjoyed cars, grilling, attending tractor pulls with his brothers, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and he was a member of the White House Church of Christ.

floral squareIn addition to his father, Mr. Head is preceded in death by his brother, Don Head, Jr. In addition to his mother, Mr. Head is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Brandon and Kayla Head, Eric Head and Austin Head; brother, Randy Head; mother of his children, Terri Murphy; grandchildren, Bailey Elizabeth Head, Xander Keith Head, and Kennedy Reese Head; niece, Lindsey (Justin) Head; nephew, Keith (Giselle) Head; and a number of cousins and dear friends.

Walter William “Walt” Kaukas Sr., age 53, of Goodlettsville, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at his home.

Mr. Kaukas is survived by his wife of 18 years, Carrie Kaukas; son, Walter Kaukas Jr.; daughters, Abbey and Aubrey Kaukas; step-mother, Donna Kaukas; and brothers, Rob (Jenny) Kaukas and Troy Kaukas.

Obituary for Mable Earline Sloan

Mable Earline Prentice Sloan, age 89, of Greenbrier, passed away Monday, January 23, 2023 at Morningside Assisted Living in Springfield.

Funeral services were conducted at 2pm Saturday, January 28th in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Greenbrier with Dr. Frank Gagliano and Bro. Jon Briggs officiating. Burial followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Douglas Sloan Jr., O’Neil Sloan, Jordan Sloan, Caleb Sloan, Gaston Cabral and Luis Ortiz serving as pallbearers.

The family received friends from 10am until time of the service at 2pm Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sloan was born September 14, 1933 in Nashville to the late Earl Nelson and Rosie Smith Prentice. She was a lifelong member of Oakland Baptist Church where she served as the pianist for over 40 years. Mrs. Sloan retired from Dupont and enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas O’Neil Sloan Sr.; a son, Victor Sloan; and a brother, Joe Prentice.
