Obituary for Inez Brooksher Allen

Inez Brooksher Allen was born in the small town of Adams on December 16, 1934, into a large family of 9 children. They had very strict parents (Joe Morgan and Mary Myrtle Brooksher) that knew every move they made. She was very proud of that. Her dad did not like to see a woman smoke, curse, wear shorts or pants to school and her mother followed his wants no matter what it was. Her mother would cook 3 meals every day, they would drink hot milk right from the cow for breakfast and supper and for lunch cold. Those cows were overworked but kept them fed. If there was any milk was left over it was given to the good neighbors. They were raised to follow the Golden Rule, Ten Commandments in the Methodist Church in Adams where they walked two miles both ways to church.

She was taught never to ask other people to do anything that they wouldn’t do themselves. She was raised a Christian but fell by the wayside sometimes but was a member of the church for 17 years. She never forgot what being honest was all about. Believing in the Lord, he helped her through many times in her life, and believes he has forgiven her of her sins.

She worked hard and helped everyone that she could which was a blessing for her. Sewing, baking pies and cakes (along with eating them) were some of her favorite things to do. In her senior years, she enjoyed making quilts, life, older people and babies (and playing games with the grandkids). Singing the hymns in church gave a special meaning to her the older she got. To her it seemed as though she finally heard the words more than just the music. Her family was a close-knit family that learned to take care of each other. They would work the fields in the morning and have a ball game after supper. It was a good life, even when she didn’t stay with the church, she tried to live by his example and knew the Lord was with her. Her mother always told her, when you do something wrong, you would pay for it and she feels she did.

Along with her parents, Miss Allen is preceded in death by 2 twin boys, Jimmy and Timmie Rigsby; 2 brothers; and 5 sisters.

Miss Allen is survived by her daughters, Jacqulyn (Wayne Patterson) Dorris and Debra Anne Read; 4 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

floral squareFuneral service was held Wednesday at 1pm at Austin and Bell Funeral in Springfield with Brother Ed Bumgardner officiating. Burial followed in Bellwood Cemetery with Family and friends serving as pallbearers.

The family received friends at the Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3pm-7pm and again on Wednesday, 11am to the hour of service at 1pm.
