Obituary for Meghan Vanatta

Jennifer “Meghan” Vanatta, age 33 of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023 at her home.

A celebration of life service was conducted at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View at 2:00PM on Thursday, January 26th with Alexander Young officiating. Her remains were cremated after the service.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 25th from 1:00PM until 5:00PM and again on Thursday from 11:00AM until the hour of service at 2:00PM.

Jennifer was born on March 20, 1989 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late James Timothy Vanatta and Gwendolyn Robin Vanatta Delplane. She was employed with Kroger as an assistant manager. Meghan had a bubbly spirit that was felt by everyone around her. Her laughter will be missed by her family and friends.
Meghan had a bubbly personality and an unmistakable loud infectious laugh. She was brave, courageous, and if anyone needed courage she was right there and had plenty to share. She enjoyed her job and loved her family and friends fiercely. In her teenage years, she could be found with the ROTC at Wilson Central. Most weekends she loved nothing more than spending time with her mother, sisters, and any other family or friends that loved the water and wanted to be out on the lake boating. She was so daring and loved to try new sporting activities and sometimes she made them up as she went along. As a family a great many weekends were spent at the lake laughing, swimming, and challenging anyone and everyone she could. We visited many nearby lakes but her favorites were Percy Priest and Center Hill. Most Fourth of July’s were spent either in downtown Nashville or at Percy Priest lake skiing, tubing, swimming. After many fun filled hours we would pick a spot and watch fireworks shows while eating sandwiches, chips, and granola bars. Many times while waiting for the fireworks she would decide she wanted to get back in the water but Meghan’s way. She would run from the back of the boat to the front and jump off the bow and if she doused anyone well that was just fine with her and being her creative feisty self loved to do it Meghan style. Her creativity grew every day. She recently began making large bows for doors during her free time. Each one more “Meghan” than the last.

In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by her step-father, Donnie Delplane; grandfather, Jerry Vanatta; grandmother, Nelle Pardue Williams.

She is survived by her mother, Robin Delplane; grandmother, Jessie Batts; grandfather, Robert Williams; brother, Eric (Christy) Vanatta; sisters, Kyla (Ryan) Chapman and Autumn (Alex) Young; nephews, Nathan Vanatta, James Vanatta, Callyn Chapman, Kodee Young and Alexander Young, II; nieces, Madison Pitts, Jaylen Vanatta, Annibell Arber, Alexis Young, and Alexandria Young; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
