Recycling Roundup In Ridgetop Attracts 188 Households And Recycles Over 18,000 Pounds Of Materials
RIDGETOP/ROBERTSON COUNTY TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Despite massive storms earlier in the week, residents from Robertson County made time to attend a free Recycling Roundup at Watauga Elementary School on May 11th, organized by Tennessee Environmental Council (TEC), a nonprofit organization and Ridgetop City Mayor, Tim Shaw. Over 170 households dropped off over 18,000 pounds of materials.
Friends and neighbors from Ridgetop and Greenbrier volunteered to help unload materials from the vehicles that drove through. Liberty Tire (tires), S3 Recycling Solutions (electronics), Knighthorst (paper shredding), Shrum Auto Salvage (scrap metal), and WM (glass and cardboard) were all on site to collect materials for recycling. Mattresses collected will be recycled by SpringBack in Nashville and clothing was taken to ThriftSmart, also in Nashville.
TEC’s Recycle Tennessee Program Director , Abby Schneider said, “We had a great turnout in Ridgetop. We are thankful to Ridgetop Mayor, Tim Shaw, for getting the word out and helping us provide this resource for the Ridgetop community. We are glad we were able to keep so many materials in the economy and out of the landfill.”
This event was one of 15 being organized by TEC in 2024. TEC’s goal with these events is to reduce illegal dumping and littering across Tennessee, while reducing the public’s reliance on landfills. This program was made possible through a grant partnership with TDOT (Tennessee Department of Transportation).
Those that missed the event can check out our Recycle Almost Anything, Anytime Handout for information on where to recycle many of the collected items.
