Severe Weather Threat Increases TIMELINE
ROBERTSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A significant severe weather event is set to impact Middle Tennessee, including Robertson County, beginning late Friday night and continuing through Saturday evening. According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, confidence has increased that multiple rounds of severe storms will sweep across the region, bringing with them damaging winds, large hail, flash flooding, and the possibility of tornadoes.
The First Round: Friday Night into Saturday Morning
Storms are expected to move into the area late Friday night, with the most severe weather likely occurring between 12 AM and 6 AM Saturday. A broken line of strong to severe thunderstorms will push across Middle Tennessee, posing a moderate risk for areas along and west of I-65. The main threats include:
- Damaging winds of 60 to 80 mph
- A few tornadoes, some of which could be strong
- Golf ball-sized hail
- Heavy rainfall, leading to potential flooding
Saturday: Another Round of Storms
There remains uncertainty about whether there will be a break in storm coverage Saturday morning. If storms continue uninterrupted, severe weather could persist through Saturday evening. Additional rounds of thunderstorms and supercells will develop by the afternoon and evening hours, bringing another round of damaging winds, hail, and possible tornadoes.
Additional Hazards: Flooding and High Winds
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch from 9 PM Friday through 1 AM Sunday, with 2 to 5 inches of rain expected across the region. Localized flash flooding and rising water levels in rivers and streams are a concern.
A Wind Advisory is also in effect from 10 PM Friday through 7 AM Saturday, with gusts of 30 to 45 mph possible outside of thunderstorms. Some areas could see gusts exceed 50 mph, potentially leading to downed trees and isolated power outages.
What You Need to Do
Residents should be weather aware and have multiple ways to receive alerts overnight. This is a nighttime event, meaning the threat will develop while most people are asleep. Charge your devices, secure loose outdoor items, and have a safety plan in place in case a tornado warning is issued.
