Suspects Apprehended in Shooting of Man Dumped Near County Line
ROBERTSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – An investigation by the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, has led to the arrest of Celia Ramirez-Hernandez, 48, and Misael Cruz-Hernandez, 34, in relation to the shooting death of Carlos Camaja, 24, from Springfield, TN.
In the early morning hours of June 11th, investigators were notified that a deceased male was discovered near the Robertson County/Montgomery County line by the railroad tracks. Initially, officials thought there may have been an accident involving a pedestrian and a train.
The first call to 911 came in at 5:39 AM, leading to a multi-agency response that included the Adams Fire Department, Robertson County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Robertson County Emergency Management Agency (EMA). The body turned out to be that of Carlos Camaja and he was not hit by the train, he had been shot.
Camaja’s body had been dumped by the tracks in the vicinity of North Qualls Road and Pineywoods Road, near the Tennessee-Kentucky-Montgomery County borders. Investigators quickly determined that Camaja had been likely shot at a residence on North Oak Street in Springfield and then moved to the location near the train tracks off North Qualls Road. LOCATION BODY WAS FOUND
The Sheriff’s Office concluded early on that Camaja was likely shot before being transported to the location where he was found. Reportedly, Camaja was shot multiple times, though authorities have not officially confirmed this detail.
Evidence collected during the execution of search warrants led to the arrest of Celia Ramirez-Hernandez, the girlfriend of Carlos Camaja, and Misael Cruz-Hernandez, the son of Celia Ramirez-Hernandez.
Celia Ramirez-Hernandez, 48, of Springfield, has been charged with criminal homicide, criminal simulation, and fabricating/tampering with evidence. Misael Cruz-Hernandez, 34, also of Springfield, faces the same charges. Both individuals are currently held without bond.
The investigation remains active and ongoing as authorities continue to gather evidence and piece together the circumstances surrounding Carlos Camaja’s death.
Smokey Barn News will provide updates as more information becomes available.
