In Tech News Today..
We had a motorcycle crash on Stateline Rd around 6 pm Sunday, fortunately, the rider was not seriously injured. The rider’s phone detected the crash and called 911 alerting first responders to the crash even before anyone was able to call it in. In fact, “crash detection calls” to 911 are fairly common now. Once in a while, someone will drive off with their cell phone on the roof of their car and when it falls off, it will trigger crash detection, but many times it works, and though there aren’t any real statistics on it yet, there’s no doubt it has and will save lives. Driver Survives Serious Crash On I65 Sunday Night

PORTLAND, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A Portland area rollover crash on I65 sent a woman to an area hospital with serious injuries.

First responders initially had trouble locating the crash that landed on the other side of a hill, down an embankment, and into a row of trees, completely out of sight from the interstate and just feet from a pond. Officials said the crest of the hill was about 70 feet from lane two of the interstate, so in all the young lady likely traveled over 100 feet before the vehicle rolled into a row of trees.

The crash occurred on I65 just below Highland Rd,  the first call coming into 911 (via OnStar) around 10 pm. LOCATION OF CRASH We’re told no one actually witnessed the crash and no other calls about the it came into 911.

According to Orlinda Fire Chief Patrick Darrow, one of the doors of the vehicle opened stopping the car from rolling right into the pond.

Chief Darrow told Smokey Barn News that the 36-year-old driver was transported to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville via Robertson County EMS in serious condition.

This is the second crash that triggered automatic crash detection that alerted first responders on Sunday, both just hours apart. As stated in the story above, we had a motorcycle crash on Stateline Rd around 6 pm Sunday, fortunately, the rider was not seriously injured. The rider’s phone detected the crash and called 911 alerting first responders to the crash even before anyone was able to call it in.
