Two Story Apartment Building Ignites In Greenbrier Sunday
GREENBRIER TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Firefighters call it a “good stop.” Numerous families in Greenbrier still have a home this evening after local Firefighters saved a two-story apartment building from certain destruction after one of the units ignited Sunday afternoon.
The complex, Ridgewood Apartments, is located on Hwy 41 between Greenbrier and Ridgetop behind the Deerfield Inn Suites. MAP
The first call came in to 911 around 12:30 pm. Firefighters from Greenbrier, Ridgetop, and the White House Community Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the scene. The Robertson County Emergency Management Agency, Robertson County EMS, and Greenbrier Police all assisted.
Together they made a “great stop,” said Greenbrier Fire Chief Kyle Hamill. “It was a team effort with a great result, no serious injuries reported, and limited property damage.”
According to Chief Hamill, the fire started in an upper second-floor unit. When firefighters arrived flames were shooting out of a second-floor window. It was clear that the fire was trying to penetrate the attic. If the fire did penetrate the attic it would spell disaster for the entire building.
Firefighters reacted quickly with an aggressive “attack” and put the fire out. One bedroom sustained significant fire damage and the rest of the unit has smoke and water damage but the unit was otherwise intact, Hamill said. The apartment directly below also sustained some water damage. Both apartments will need repairs before they are livable again.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to Chief Hamill. We have requested a copy of the final report which should become available as soon as the investigation is complete.
Additional adjacent units were unaffected and no injuries were reported for residents or Firefighters.
The two families affected were put in contact with the American Red Cross. If Go-Fund-Me accounts are set up for either family or if they reach out to us with any needs that they have, we will bring it to you.
