GREENBRIER TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A house fire in Greenbrier early Wednesday morning left one man seriously injured. The fire broke out in the 3000 block of Worsham Springs Road, the first call coming into 911 just after midnight Wednesday morning. MAP The home was already fully involved when crews arrived. Firefighters from several local departments, including Greenbrier, Springfield, and Ridgetop, were dispatched to the scene, along with Robertson County EMS and the Emergency Management Agency.
The homeowner, estimated to be in his 60s and the sole resident of the home, managed to escape the blaze but barely. He reportedly sustained burns on his face, arms, and chest. An alert neighbor noticed the fire and called 911 before running to the house arriving seconds after the homeowner escaped the ball of fire. The courageous neighbor dragged the man away a safe distance from the home. The homeowner was able to communicate at the scene, and though he was breathing on his own, his injuries were serious. The next few hours will be critical for his recovery.
Rodney Hoover, the site commander with the Greenbrier Fire Department, is not labeling the fire as suspicious. Based on initial findings, Hoover believes the fire may have started near the fireplace. Since it was a chilly evening, it’s possible an attempt to light a fire triggered the blaze, but authorities will continue their investigation in daylight.
The nearest hydrant was nearly a mile away forcing firefighters to shuttle water to the scene. Despite the challenge, they were able to prevent the fire from spreading to a nearby structure, which neighbors say contained a vintage Camaro. The house, which neighbors estimate may have been built in the 1930s or 40s, was a total loss.
The Greenbrier Fire Department will remain on the scene to monitor the home in case of a rekindle. Smokey Barn News will do our best to provide updates on the gentleman’s condition throughout the morning and afternoon.
