Winter Weather Update Sunday, January 16, 2022

ROBERTSON COUNTY/MIDDLE TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – An update from the US National Weather Service Nashville Tennessee:

WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM CST THIS EVENING…

Sunday Morning Update:

“Warm air continues to hold on to many areas around the mid state, especially around Nashville and points east, preventing more widespread snow from impacting more areas. North of I-40, especially near the KY border, been getting reports of freezing rain and light ice accumulation. South of I-40, we have been seeing more snow reports, with 3 up to 8 inches in parts of Williamson and Lewis Counties. Please feel free to share any snow reports, or what types of precipitation you are currently seeing, along with your location!

Snow lovers don’t give up hope yet if you haven’t seen snow; cold air is working its way in from the northwest, and as the system moves to the east, it will pull the cold air with it. The atmosphere still refuses to cooperate this morning, however, and the lowest levels continue to hover around the freezing mark for now, which will keep the different precipitation types coming and going this morning into the early afternoon. Once the precipitation changes over to snow later this morning for some and more areas into the early afternoon, it will still have the potential to put down heavy snow in a short amount of time.

Again, regardless of the snow amounts, the areas that received mixed precipitation and continue to receive it will see hazardous travel conditions. This will especially be true later today, tonight, and even into Monday as cold temperatures settle in, and will create slick spots and black ice on area roadways.”

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
