Loads Of Fun/Food Planned For Adams Rec. Club Opening Day. Let’s Play Ball!
The city of Adams would like to invite everyone out to the Adams Recreation Club Opening Day set for Saturday, April 24th at 7617 US-41, Adams, TN 37010.
The FREE Family fun Fundraiser event will be taking place on April 24 from 10-3 which will consist of a Vendor/Craft Show, Ball Games, Bouncy Houses, Dunking Booth, BBQ Plates (Pre Sale Only), Snow Cones, Bellhollow Beef Concessions, and a Magic Show. The proceeds will benefit the Adams Recreation Club.
The Vendor/Craft Show will be held inside Bell School Gym from 10 to 3. The Hocus Pocus Magic Show will be in the Bell School Auditorium – Showtimes are 11 & 1 – Ticket Costs are $5 (3 & Under Free) 35% of magic show sales will be donated to the rec club

Music will be provided by the guys from the Inglewood Old Time String Band.
You spoke and we listened. This year you’ll experience expanded food truck options by alternating food trucks during markets. Santa Fe will be with us for a market each month and another always different food truck will be there for the other market during the month. Also, we’ve added some new local vendors and are switching several vendors out each market to ensure variety and help us keep our market exciting and fresh. We have increased our roster of local farmers and growers, so this year you’ll be seeing more produce and organic products; especially as produce and other products come in and reach harvest time.
We work tirelessly to try and bring you local vendors with local products. If you are interested in being a vendor, please message me and let me know. Outside vendors are welcome, but priority will be set on local availability, range of products, etc.

An accident during Saturday night’s races
Two Drivers from the Road Worriers were transported to local Hospitals for non-Life-Threatening injuries during races last night at Veterans Motorplex.
“It is our understanding that both drivers from the wreck in the road warrior are being released from the hospital. Annual Spring Turkey Shoot Coming To American Legion Post 45 In Greenbrier
Time is not the only thing that has “sprung” ahead! New for 2021, the American Legion Post 45 in Greenbrier, TN will be hosting its first annual Spring Turkey Shoot for all 4 Saturdays in April!
“Our faithful shooters asked and we heard you! Our great American Legion Riders group has stepped up to organize this event.
We begin at 8 am and run till 12 noon! Family-friendly! Only about 3 weeks to we start so get those shotguns dusted off!” American Legion Post 45.
The Spring Turkey Shoot takes place Saturdays starting April 3 from 8 AM to 12 PM or no more shooters through April 24 8 AM to 12 PM or no more shooters.

Vendor, Sponsor Applications Now Available For Greenbrier’s 2021 Turning Of The Pig
The Greenbrier Boosters will be hosting the historic Annual BBQ Festival known as “Turning of the Pig” again this summer and in an effort to make it bigger and better than ever, they have opened up the application process early for anyone interested in a vendor booth or sponsorship of this nostalgic family fun two-day event.
“Who’s excited for Turning of the Pig? We’re looking for sponsors and vendors! Applications for sponsors and vendors are now being accepted for 2021 Turning of the Pig on July 3rd behind City Hall!” says Jenn Houchin.
The annual festival is held behind Greenbrier City Hall and offers live country and gospel music, food, a dunking booth, carnival games and an array of local vendors selling everything from crafts to Greenbrier memorabilia. The Historical Society traditionally sells homemade ice cream and fresh squeezed lemonade.
Traditionally Boston butts/pulled pork is slowly cooked on a huge open fire pit throughout the evening on July 3rd. The pork and family picnic packs are ready for sale by 6 AM the morning of the fourth.
Greenbrier’s Independence day parade usually begins at 10 a.m. in the Greenbrier Elementary School parking lot and travels south towards the Greenbrier High school.
The event is free to attend, but the funds from the Turning of the Pig pork sale is the biggest fundraiser of the year and helps to meet all the needs of the Greenbrier High School Marching/Concert Band program.

Coming To Orlinda: Multi-Million Dollar COVID Swab MFG Facility
ORLINDA TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) -Guilford Maine bassed Puritan Medical Products, a manufacturer of single-use products for the healthcare, diagnostic, forensic, critical environment, food safety, and drug manufacturing industries will receive up to $146.77 million from the Department of Defense to open up a new production facility in Orlinda Tennessee, according to the defense department.
On March 26, 2021, the Department of Defense (DOD), on behalf of and in coordination with the Department of Health and Human Services, awarded a contract with a not-to-exceed value of $146.77 million to Puritan Medical Products to increase domestic production capability of foam tip swabs used in critical COVID-19 diagnostic tests.
The global increase in COVID-19 cases continues to impact diagnostic test manufacturers and the supply chains that support specimen collection and testing performance. This industrial base expansion effort serves as a modification to the previous Puritan contract. This award will allow Puritan to conduct renovations to the facility and prepare the space for equipment that will increase the company’s total production capacity to 250 million foam tip swabs per month in Orlinda, Tennessee by February 2022.
The DOD’s Defense Assisted Acquisition (DA2) Cell led this effort in coordination with the Department of the Air Force’s Acquisition COVID-19 Task Force (DAF ACT). This effort was funded through the Health Care Enhancement Act (HCEA) to support domestic industrial base expansion for essential medical resources.
The project represents an investment of $220 million and the creation of 625 jobs over the next five years.

Puritan is one of two companies in the world that manufactures the specialized swabs used in COVID-19 tests. April 24: City of Springfield, TN – Community Cleanup
The City of Springfield is on a mission to keep Springfield beautiful by launching a city-wide cleanup and a new Adopt-a-Street program.
Citizens are invited to participate in Springfield’s Community Cleanup on Saturday, April 24, 2021, from 9 a.m. to noon at various locations throughout the city. The city has partnered with Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to provide all volunteer supplies including safety vests, bags, and gloves along with water to stay hydrated. Volunteering is easy. Adopt-a-Street Program
The city understands our streets need attention year-round, so the public works department has launched a new Adopt-A-Street Program to keep them litter-free. This volunteer program enables community organizations, businesses, and individuals the opportunity to help maintain and beautify city streets.
To participate in the Adopt-a-Street program, volunteers agree to adopt one-mile segments of a major or collector street and agree to remove litter a minimum of four times per year for at least one year. In recognition of the litter removal efforts, the city will install a sign recognizing participants for their commitment to the program and community.
Adopting a street is free, but you must conduct a cleanup at least four times throughout the year, specifically one during each season. The agreement is valid for one year and can be renewed annually.

Springfield Parks and Recreation in partnership with Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) hosts a Free Fishing Rodeo for children 14 years of age and under at J. Travis Price Park to celebrate National Fishing Month.
Participants must bring all fishing gear and bait – (no artificial lures allowed). TWRA stocks the pond with catfish, bream, sunfish, and other small fish for the event.

Springfield – Disc golf is now available at J. Travis Price Park!
The new disc golf course was made possible thanks to a generous donation of equipment by Discin Disciples Disc Golf Group. The equipment donation was made possible by various local businesses, entities and individuals.
The Springfield Parks & Recreation Department installed the nine-hole disc golf course, with plans to add nine more holes by June 2021.
An official course name will be unveiled in August.
Disc golf is very similar to regular golf. Players compete by throwing a disc at each target until they land a goal. The score is tallied based on how many throws it takes a player to reach each goal.
The new course is accessible to the public during park hours, dawn to dusk.

Meeting – Wednesday, May 5th
The Friends of Gorham-MacBane Library is a is a not-for-profit organization for people who are interested in books and libraries.
The Friends meet the 1st Wednesday of every other month at Stokes Brown Public Library at 11am. The next meeting will be held Wednesday, May 5th. Anyone is welcome to join our Friends group.
They meet in January, March, May, July, September, and November.
Become A Friend
A ‘Friend’ is someone who can help with an annual membership fee and perhaps be able to give some time to the Library in volunteer hours. Meetings occur six times a year and we have events/activities throughout the year.
Volunteers can help shelve books, prepare materials for children’s groups, or help with special events. There are many opportunities for you to help in your Library. It’s a good way to meet people and make new friends!
The purpose of this organization is:
• To maintain an association of persons who are interested in literature, music, art, science, education, and culture.
• To promote the operation, maintenance, growth, and development of the Library.
• To promote an informed interest in the Library, its services, facility’s needs, and to stimulate the use of the Library resources and services.
• To encourage, receive, and administer gifts, endowments, and bequests for the promotion of the objectives of Gorham-MacBane Public Library.

Two local Girl Scouts earn their Bronze Award
WHITE HOUSE, Tenn. – Two Girl Scouts from Robertson and Sumner Counties recently earned and received their Bronze Award, the highest award a Junior Girl Scout can achieve, during a ceremony in White House on April 14.
The two girls, Emma Haas-Allen from Cedar Hill and Zion Smith from Portland, both 11-years-old, are part of Girl Scout Troop 1539.
To earn their award, Emma and Zion had to identify an issue in their community, set goals for improving the problem, and then work a minimum of 20 hours each toward achieving their goal. The award gives scouts the chance to show they are organized, determined, and dedicated to improving their community.
“Emma and Zion decided to complete a joint project aimed at improving the lives of animals at the Sumner County Humane Society,” said Susan Haslam, Troop 1539’s Assistant Scout Leader.
First, they developed a “Care for Other Creatures” brochure with the help of their fellow Troop members. The brochure taught others how to safely care for cats and dogs and help find families and homes for several of the animals at the Humane Society.
“The girls worked very hard to develop their informational brochure, and then they handed them out, delivered them to local businesses, and fastened them to information bulletin boards for people to see,” said Haslam. “Because of their hard work, several dogs and a long-time resident cat were all adopted.”
That was only part of their project. Next, Emma and Zion set out to improve the lives of those animals still living in the shelter. The two girls made cat and dog toys as well as baking treats for the animals.
“I really wanted to make sure the animals had things to play with and use to get exercise while they were waiting to be adopted,” said Emma.
They made over 300 chew toys, tug-of-war ropes, and other toys visitors could use to play with the animals or the animals could use on their own. Unfortunately, COVID-19 caused significant challenges for the girls as they began their project. They had to learn to work independently since their troop could not meet in person as of March 2020. In addition, visiting the Humane Society was limited due to COVID restrictions.
“I am so proud of that the hard work the girls put into their project,” said Haslam. “Once they finished, they were both able to bring their toys to Sumner County Humane Society, where they were able to meet with the shelter manager and staff. They had to take extra COVID precautions, but they were able to play and give their toys and treats to the kittens, cats, and dogs.”
“I was so happy to meet the animals we helped,” said Emma. “I learned a lot about what it takes to take care of animals and the hard work it takes to get them to good families and homes.”

📍 Crime in progress, or a serious life-threatening injury can be reported to the White House Police Department at Emergency # 9-1-1.
📍Suspicious activity, strange behavior, threatening presence, loitering: Call White House PD.

TOWN OF PLEASANT VIEW
Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department – Chief Pj Duncan and Lt. Abbie Boeing were honored to have had the opportunity to spend some time in DC last week representing the PVVFD and the nations fire service at the capital.
We joined several hundred fire service personnel from around our nation to talk to congress on a couple of very important issues. We broke up into groups and hit as many folks as we possibly could in a such a short time.
We were able to discuss the importance of installing fire sprinkler systems in buildings such as residential high rises when these building are remodeled.
We were also able to speak about the refunding of the FEMA AFG and SAFER grants. This bill is expiring and has been reintroduced, we just need it refunded. It is important that we let our leaders know just how important these federal grant programs are to the livelihood of many of our nations fire departments, including the Pleasant View Fire Department.
Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department – The final day of PDO in Pleasant View TN!
Students ran scenarios, worked with a 4-way hydrant valve, and joined the 2K club by flowing 2,000 GPM from their Ascendant midmount tower!

Hello! After one LONG year… on March 15th we were able to open our doors to our Seniors again!
I realize that our opening guidelines were very restrictive in the begin ning guidelines and quite honestly, not very welcoming but…
Spring has finally sprung! As promised, we are able to lift more restrictions and do away with some all together!
Although as you can imagine, we still have to be viligent and follow some protocol… I think you will as pleased as we are that things are much more relaxed and closer to normal!
Our Operating hours will re main from 9:30am- 2:30pm. This allows adequate time to sanitize and prepare for activ ities.
We plan to add even some more activities in May like, our Harmonica elass, another exercise class, etc. We also plan to start our “Out & About trips again!

Robertson County Emergency Medical Services – Congratulations to Kyle Sorensen for obtaining his Tennessee Paramedic license!
Kyle has begun his field training process that our employees undergo when they transition from AEMT to Paramedic.
Once completed, this will be one more paramedic that RCEMS has to provide outstanding prehospital care to the citizens of Robertson County.
Robertson County Sheriff’s Office – Friday, April 16th, Sheriff Michael Van Dyke joined CASA of Robertson County, TN and many community members in the annual planting of the pinwheels in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month.
When you pass by the Robertson County Court House and see the pinwheels, remember that CASA of Robertson County is working hard to be the voice of those children that have been abused and neglected. #ChildAbusePreventionMonth

• DEA will collect vape pens or other e-cigarette devices from individual consumers only after the batteries are removed from the devices. It is important to stress that the DEA is not responsible for removing the batteries from the devices.
• If the battery cannot be removed, individual consumers can check with large electronic chain stores who may accept the vape pen or e-cigarette devices for proper disposal.
• Individual consumers may also contact their local Hazardous Materials Management Facility to determine if they accept these devices, and for additional guidance regarding proper disposal.
