Charles Michael “Mike” Green, age 67, of Springfield, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022 at his home.

Mr. Green’s wishes were to be cremated and no services are scheduled at this time.

Mr. Green was born June 18, 1955 in Nashville and was a Steel Fabricator with Wylie Steel for many years.

Obituary for Joe Max Durham

Joe Max Durham, age 88, of Nashville, formerly of Springfield, passed away Friday, December 16, 2022 at Alive Hospice in Nashville.

Mr. Durham’s wishes were to be cremated and no services are scheduled at this time.

He was born August 24, 1934 in Springfield to the late James Floyd and Lilly Grace Woodard Durham. Mr. Durham was a U.S. Army veteran and worked as a Lab Tech for Oscar Mayer for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Shirley Jean Durham; 2nd wife, Geneva Durham; brother, Billy floral squareCharles Durham; and sisters, Dorothy Merle Carroll, Betty Jean Jones and Ann Levone McIntosh.

Mr. Durham is survived by his children, Susan Elaine Durham, Terry Joe Durham, Gary Heflin and Donna Heflin-Parker; 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Obituary for Chris Eldon Wing

Age 67 of White House passed away Sunday, December 11, 2022 at the VA Medical Center in Nashville. He was born October 23, 1955 in Clyde OH to Clifford and Joan Mooney Wing. Chris is retired with 45 years of service as an EEOC Mediator for the Federal Government. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed fishing, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, mowing with his tractor and visiting casinos.

He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Cindy Wing; daughter, Alicia Wing, both of White House, TN; grandson, Dominic Moore; brother, Jim (Cheryl) Wing; sister, Cindy (Terry) Cullen, both of Clyde, OH; many nieces and nephews.

Barbara Ann Chitwood Bryson

Barbara Ann Chitwood was born August 6, 1942 in Oneonta, Alabama to the late Herbert and Vera Haynes Chitwood, She graduated from Susan Moore High School (Ala) in 1960 and married Frank Beamon Bryson of Blountsville,(Ala).

Barbara followed Beamon for 17 years as he served at both domestic and international Air Force bases, Following the divorce; Barbara settled in Boaz, Alabama working for many years at the Lee Company and raising her girls, Belita and Brenda, serving as a Sunday School teacher at FBC Boaz, and sharing her gifts of mercy with those in need.

Upon her retirement, Barbara moved to Springfield Tn and continued serving others by volunteering at Open Door Pregnancy Center, being a Pink lady with Northcrest Auxiliary and helping many of the older residents at the Holiday House. She was a member of Springfield Baptist.

Barbara most recently resided at NHC-Springfield. She went home to her Lord and Savior on December 10th.

She was preceded in death by her sister Beatrice Hammitt of Albertville, Ala and grandson Jason Howard of Springfield, TN

A memorial celebration will be held in Alabama next Spring. The family will be pleased to accept cards and notes describing fond memories of Barbara Bryson.

Byron Clifford “Kip” Kennedy, 69, of Cedar Hill, passed away on Wednesday December 14, 2022, at NHC Healthcare in Springfield.

Memorial services will be conducted Thursday December 22nd at 2:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Pastor Frank Kirby officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 12 noon until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Byron was born April 29, 1953, in Springfield to the late Clifford and Jean Byron Johnson Kennedy. He was a graduate of Jo Byrns High School Class of 1971 and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Bethel College. Byron had worked as a lab technician with Urgent Care, was a farmer, and was a member of Mt. Denson Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He loved reading and studying history. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Loretta Vaughn Kennedy and by his sister: Lisa Kennedy.

Elvin Luster “Bubba” Dorris Jr., age 73 of Springfield, TN died Wednesday December 14, 2022, at the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Clarksville, TN.

His remains are at the Robertson County Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2 pm on Monday December 19, 2022, in the Greenbrier Cemetery. Justin Dorris, Kaden Dorris, Tyler Livziey, Jonathon Adams, Josh Henning, Michael Shepard, David Adams and Steve Livziey will serve as pallbearers. Donnie Gower will serve as an honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 12 pm until 1:30 pm.

floral squareBubba was born June 5, 1949, in Springfield, TN to the late Elvin Luster and Helen Rippy Dorris. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was an avid NASCAR fan particularly Dale Earnhardt Sr and then Dale Earnhardt Jr.

He is survived by his sisters, Carolyn Dorris and Elaine Spurlock and husband Carl and several nieces and nephews and cousins

Obituary for David Bunn

David Bunn, 64, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday December 13, 2022, at his home.

Graveside services were conducted Thursday December 15th at 2:00 p.m. in the Elmwood Cemetery with Tim Harris officiating. Pallbearers were Brian Bunn, Brent Bunn, Phillip Bunn, Jesse Biggs, Joey Fletcher, and Terry Bunn. There was no visitation prior to the graveside service.

David was born October 8, 1958, in Richland, S.C. to the late John Francis and Mary Frances Walker Bunn. He worked in tool & die and was of the Baptist faith. David enjoyed fishing, watching NASCAR, hanging out with his family and friends, but especially with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son: Clinton Ray Duffer and by his brother: Buddy Bunn.

Obituary for Caroline Thursa Eckles

Caroline (Thursa) Dunn Eckles, age 96, formerly of Springfield, passed away peacefully at Central Park Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Brandon Florida on November 17, 2022.

A Memorial Service was conducted at 12pm Saturday, December 17, 2022 in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with The Rev. Jason Jones officiating. Inurnment followed in Elmwood Cemetery.

The family received friends from 11am until time of the service at 12pm Saturday at the funeral home.

Caroline was born on December 4,1925 in Springfield and was the daughter of Nannie Mae Porter Dunn and John Robert Dunn, Sr. She grew up with her brother John Robert Dunn, Jr. in Springfield where she attended Springfield High School. After graduation, she attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri later transferring to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where she studied Home Economics and Nutrition. She married George L. Eckles, Sr. on July 10,1946 at the First Methodist Church in Springfield. Caroline and George had three sons: Dr. George L. (Susan) Eckles, Jr., Dr. Robert Lyman (Trisha) Eckles and Timothy Porter (Lis) Eckles. Caroline and George lived in Springfield until the late-1990’s when they moved to the Tampa Florida area. During their retirement Caroline and George loved to plan family trips and get together with their sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They were happily married for 61 years until George’s death on February 2, 2007. Caroline was a lifetime member of the First Methodist Church in floral squareSpringfield. She was a member of the Springfield Country Club, enjoyed participating in her Bridge Club and still found time to serve as den mother for the Cub Scouts. She was employed at Eckles Office Supplies of Springfield as a sales representative and office manager.

She is survived by her aforementioned sons; four grandchildren: Trey (Marcella) Eckles, Ryan Eckles, Kristen (Scott) Modesitt, Rob (Natasha) Eckles; and five great-grandchildren: Julian Eckles, Hoss Eckles, Nolan Eckles, Brady Modesitt and Reese Modesitt.

Marjorie June Crutcher, age 90 of Springfield, passed away December 18, 2022, at her home.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, December 26, 2022 from 4-8 PM and again on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, 2 hours before the service at 2 PM.

Funeral services will be held in the chapel of the Austin and Bell Funeral Home with Bro. Judson Phenicie and Bro. David Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Brian Davis, Garrett Davis, Jonathan Lovings, Sean Crutcher, Scott Lovings, Kevin Davis, Jacob Culwell and Caleb Culwell serving as pallbearers.

Marjorie June Crutcher was born March 1, 1930, in Springfield, TN to the late W. R. Ellis and Alice G. Ellis. She was a homemaker and seamstress for many years. She was very strong in her faith and a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Springfield where she was very active for many years as a Sunday School teacher, church clerk and treasurer.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Crutcher is preceded in death by her husband Alfred Stanley Crutcher, daughter, Mary Alice Crutcher, her brother, William Donald Ellis, her sisters, Evangeline Clinard and Esterlene Barnett, and by her great grandsons, Nicholas and Christopher Lovings.

Mrs. Crutcher is survived by her son, Tim Crutcher of Springfield, daughters and sons-in-law, Martha and David Davis of Greenbrier, Lois and Lee Culwell of Greenbrier, grandchildren, Charity (Scott) Lovings, Brian (Sonya) Davis, Kevin (Olessia) Davis, Sean (Rosie) Crutcher, Meagan (Michael) Rogers, Michaela (Jordan) Chandler, floral squareJacob (Ellen) Culwell, Caleb (Ariel) Culwell; great grandchildren: Jessica (Jason) Lovings-Bilbrey, Jonathan Lovings, Garrett Davis, Madalynn Davis, Aleksander Davis, Travis Rogers, Eleanor Rogers, Audrey Crutcher, Elijah Crutcher, Asher Culwell, and Oliver Chandler. She is also survived by her sisters, Bonnie Faye Balthrop, Mary Dimple Balthrop, brothers, Robert Bell Ellis, Mac Welbur Ellis, Joe Bailey (Jerri) Ellis, Jewell (Frances) Ellis and several sisters-in-laws, and many nieces and nephews.

Missy was born on September 17, 1967 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Malcom & Sadie Allen Taylor. She was an office manager for a non-profit organization. Missy enjoyed cooking and going on walks. She dearly loved her family and also her animals, Harley, Diesel, Rambo, and Patches.

She worked as a sales clerk for Ma & Paws. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, going to the lake and spending time with her grandchildren. Her passion was to rescue senior dogs, especially corgis. She also spent time with agility training and competitions.

Louise “Nadine” “Maw Maw” “Sis” Mayo Martin, age 88, of Nashville, formerly of Greenbrier, passed away Monday, December 12, 2022 at NHC Place Sumner in Gallatin.

Funeral services were conducted at 1pm Saturday, December 17, 2022 in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Greenbrier with Bro. Randy Riggs officiating. Burial followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens.

The family received friends from 11am until time of service at 1pm Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Martin was born January 17, 1934 in Greenbrier to the late Clarence Robert “C.R.” and Addie Marie Ogg Mayo. She was a loving wife and mother. She worked as a receptionist for Roesch Patton Funeral Home and also worked at Baptist Hospital for many years. She was known for her sweet spirit and joyful smile. Mrs. Martin’s house was a gathering place for her kids and grandkids from all over the country. She was also known for making the best scalloped potatoes and the love she had for her little dog “Chippy”. She was a life-long Elvis fan until she heard Vince Gill.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Rufus Martin in 1983; granddaughter, Brooke Nadine Cosgrove Grunnet; and a grandson, Joshua Martin Robbins.

Chad Wendell Nicholson, age 42, of Clarksville, Tennessee, died Monday, December 12, 2022 at Ascension St. Thomas Rutherford.

Chad was born on August 5, 1980 in Nashville, Tennessee, to the late Bobby & Diane Nicholson. He was a truck driver who loved to be behind the wheel whether it was cement or dump trucks or 18 wheelers. He enjoyed racing cars and working on cars, four wheelers, or trucks with friends. Chad was a big guy with the biggest heart of anyone you ever met. He loved to tease and aggravate the floral squarepeople he loved. His smile and mischievous giggle were the best and while we never knew it, we will all miss the teasing as much as the smile and giggles. Chad was a member of Living Hope Baptist Church in Clarksville.

He is survived by his wife, Danielle Nicholson; daughter, Aniya Smith; and his loving family & friends.

Obituary for Dorothy Mildred Green

Age 94 of White House went home to be with the Lord Monday, December 12, 2022 at White House Health Care & Rehab. She was born February 8, 1928 in Gainesboro, TN to Henry and Willie Long Matthews. She worked as an assembly worker for Werthan Bag before her retirement. She was a member of Madison Assembly of God. She loved going to church, spending time with her friends and family, singing, going to yard sales and cooking, especially sweets. Some of her specialties were coconut tarts and cakes. She enjoyed playing Bingo with her friends at the Rehab and spending time with her grandchildren every opportunity that she got.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sons, Tommy Smith and Hugh Smith; daughter, Arlene Jackson; 4 brothers; 1 sister. She is survived by her son, Jim (Brenda) Smith, Lebanon, TN; daughter, Millie East, White House, TN; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Obituary for Lillian Ruth “Ms. Lil” White

Lillian Ruth “Ms. Lil” White, age 93 of Greenbrier, passed from this life on Sunday, December 11, 2022 at Morningside of Springfield.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, December 16, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Hillcrest Church of Christ in Springfield with Bro. Johnny Trail officiating. Burial followed in Greenbrier Cemetery with Carney White, Jr., Cory White, Derek White, Brent White, Luke White, Matthew White, Brayden White, Todd Averitt, and Hunter White serving as pallbearers. The family received friends at the church on Thursday from 3 until 7 PM and Friday from 10 AM until the hour of service.

Ms. Lil was born August 23, 1929 in Greenbrier to the late Gillie and Sallie Grubbs Weaver, Sr. She was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ where she enjoyed working, especially in the kitchen and also the kitchen at youth camp every year. She worked at Bill Martin’s CeeBee as a clerk for 48 years going through several different owners. She loved University of Tennessee sports and all sports in general but what she loved the most was her Lord and her family, especially the children.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Gillie, Jr. Carney, Thomas, Frank “Pete”, Bobby, and Billy Weaver; her sisters, Frances Birdwell, Evie Lou Eanes, and Dorothy Thibodeau; grandchildren, Shawn and Roy, Jr. White; daughter-in-law, Teresa White; and grandson-in-law, Mike Ritter.

Obituary for Ann Brown

Zella Ann Anderson Brown “Ann” was a proud Robertson County native. During most of her near 89 years, she was the loving and supportive spouse of Richard Eugene Brown, who served the United States Army as a Command Sargent Major. During their 65 years together, they called many posts home, including stays in Germany, California, Texas, and Ft. Knox, Kentucky. Their travels and Vietnam deployments would not have been possible without Ann’s strength and unwavering commitment to family. Her contributions to our nation as a military spouse were significant. Upon retirement, they returned to Greenbrier.

Ann was also proud of and greatly enjoyed being a mother of three, a grandmother of five, and a great grandmother of three. As her family tree grew, she reveled in the development of each member of her growing family, and she took great joy in being actively involved in their lives. Her grandchildren appropriately knew her as “Honey”.
For many years, Ann was an active member of Greenbrier Baptist Church and the Greenbrier Historical Society, both of which she greatly enjoyed. She was an avid and very knowledgeable fan of professional tennis, and she was quick to quote current statistics for Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic. She also loved the Hallmark Channel, and she watched every movie. This past year, Ann resided at Morningside of Springfield where she was surrounded by many friends dating back to high school. She became known there for her ministry to others, her acute memory, and her quick wit. She greatly enjoyed her time at Morningside and took part in many activities, including exercise and trivia contests.

Ann was predeceased by her husband, Richard E. Brown; her parents, John and Jewel Anderson; brother John Anderson, Jr.; and sister Reba Johnson.

Ann is survived by her children, Mike Brown, Judi Smith (Paul), and Tim Brown (Sandy); grandchildren Gentry Smith (Brennen), Kelsey Pentecost (Jake), Nate Smith (Katie), Abbey Brown, John Raymond Brown (Taylor); great grandchildren, Paul Smith IV, Warren Brown, and Florie Smith. She is also survived by her beloved Alabama family and many of her first cousins.

floral squareAnn had an inoperable aortic aneurism which ruptured during the night, and she died peacefully under the care of Hospice at Northcrest Hospital in Springfield. She was lovingly surrounded by immediate family until her last breath.

A visitation beginning at 10:00 and a 1:00 memorial service will be held on December 22nd at Austin and Bell Funeral Home in Greenbrier. If so moved, donations may be made to The Eastern Star (Greenbrier Chapter), the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, or a charity of your choice.

Obituary for Linda Kay Cohea

Linda Kay Cohea, age 77, of Adams, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2022 at Oak Point Assisted Living.

Funeral services were conducted at 11am Wednesday, December 14, 2022 in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Dr. David Blazer officiating. Burial followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens.

The family received friends from 4-8pm Tuesday and again from 9am until time of service at 11am Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Cohea was born May 14, 1945 in Robertson County to the late Willis G. and Francis Earlene Proctor Rawls. She was a seamstress at Wilson Sporting Goods for 16 years and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cohea was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Cohea; brother, Richard Rawls; and sisters, Lois Desousa, Elsie Mooneyhan and Bessie Breeden.

Obituary for Chris Eldon Wing

Age 67 of White House passed away Sunday, December 11, 2022 at the VA Medical Center in Nashville. He was born October 23, 1955 in Clyde OH to Clifford and Joan Mooney Wing. Chris is retired with 45 years of service as an EEOC Mediator for the Federal Government. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed fishing, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, mowing with his tractor and visiting casinos.

Nina “Maureen” Lamberth, age 88, of Springfield, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2022 at The Arbors of Springfield.

Graveside services were conducted at 2:30pm Friday, December 16, 2022 in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Bro. Tim Harris officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Pearson, Wayne Moulton, Jamie Aldridge, Jacob Aldridge, Craig Harris, Tim Moulton, Randall Moulton and David Lane.

The family received friends from 12-2pm Friday at the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield.

Ms. Lamberth was born November 11, 1934 in Adams, TN to the late Charles and Pauline Walker Caudill Jr. She was a nurse (LPN) for floral square56 years serving patients at Jesse Holman Jones and Northcrest Medical Center.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mitzi Marlene Lamberth; and a cousin, Janice Derryberry.

Ms. Lamberth is survived by her cousins, Peggy Pearson, Myra Moulton and Randi Pearson.

Age 63 of White House passed away Friday, December 9, 2022 at Hendersonville Medical Center. He was born February 24, 1959 in Huntington, NY to John Lawrence and Judith Ann Shadbolt Dickie. He worked as a custom cabinet maker and was the owner of Triple D Cabinets. He enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling, especially to Gatlinburg. He loved spending time outdoors. He was a true craftsman and loved cabinet making.

Obituary for Philip Anthony “Tony” Dorris

Philip Anthony “Tony” Dorris was born December 28, 1953, in Springfield TN. Son of the late Philip Hall Dorris and Cornelia Reeves Clinard. Tony was a 1972 graduate of Springfield High School. He was united in marriage to Denise Dorris on May 9, 1975. He was a 4th generation builder/developer in Robertson County, TN. Mr. Dorris entered into enteral life on December 8, 2022, at Skyline Medical Center at the age of 68. His greatest joy was his kids and grandkids whom he loved and cared for dearly. He was a lover of life whose smile was contagious.

The family received friends on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Ms. Dot was born August 7, 1927, in Cedar Hill to the late Virgil H. and Lovie Pitt Barnes. She was a graduate of Cedar Hill High School Class of 1945 and of the Nashville Business College. Ms. Dot was a retired Register of Deeds for Robertson County and was a member of Springfield Baptist Church. She also worked 33 years for George Yost law firm. She loved cooking, working crossword puzzles, reading, talking on the phone, and always taking care of all the people she loved.

Marvin James Evans, Jr., 87, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday December 7, 2022, at Creekside Assisted Living in Murfreesboro.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday December 13th at 1:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Duff officiating. Interment followed in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Clarksville with family and friends serving as pallbearers. The family received friends on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until service at the funeral home.

Mr. Evans was born July 12, 1935, in Clarksville to the late Marvin James and Hattie McCoy Evans, Sr. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was a retired mechanic with Neely Coble. Mr. Evans previously attended Bible Baptist Church and Battle Creek Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and was currently a member of Lights Chapel Baptist Church in Greenbrier. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling.

Mr. Evans is survived by his wife of 68 years: Shirley Heflin Evans, by his sons and daughters-in-law: Danny and Bridget Evans of Murfreesboro, Michael and Nancy Evans of Tupelo, MS, by his grandchildren: Brittaney (James) Hammond, Krista Evans, and floral squareEmily Evans, and by his great grandchildren: Cassandra and Lillian Hammond.

Ethan was born December 27, 2001, in Nashville. He was a graduate of Sycamore High School Class of 2020 and was currently attending Austin Peay State University in Clarksville. Ethan loved playing basketball and baseball, going fishing, and shooting guns. He was a member of Martins Chapel United Methodist Church.

David Lee Flynn, age 86, of Ashland City, Tennessee, died Thursday, December 8, 2022 at his home.

His remains were cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Flynn was born on August 8, 1936 in Waltham, Massachusetts, to the late Arthur & Mary Daley Flynn. He was retired from Purity Supreme as vice president after 30 plus years of service. He loved to watch tv and looked forward to seeing Dr. Phil each day. He most especially loved his family.

Obituary for Jerry Moreland Sr.

Master Sergeant (Retired) Jerry Don Moreland Sr left this earthly world and went to be with his Lord in Heaven on December 6, 2022. Jerry was born October 7, 1937, to the late JC Moreland and Alice Stevison Moreland in Cleveland, Tennessee.

He is survived by his wife Rebecca (Becky) Johnson Moreland, sister Shirley Moreland McLemore, brother Ronald Moreland (Charlotte) three children Debra Moreland Cox, Ed Moreland (Sharon) and Jerry Moreland Jr. (Cindy). He had 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 1 great great-grandson, several nieces, and nephews. He was a member of Madisonville First Baptist Church where he was a greeter. His smile lit up the room and made everyone feel welcome.

On August 7, 1956, Jerry married the love of his life, Rebecca Johnson (Becky). Married 67 years. In 1956 Jerry joined the United States Air Force and retired after 20 years in 1976 and was in the Air Force Ready Reserves for another 10 years. He served in several overseas deployments and during war time. During his enlistment he was awarded numerous honors and medals. He enjoyed attending Veterans Day celebrations and felt it was important to stay connected with other veterans. After retiring from the military, Jerry and Becky ventured into a second career, co-owning Mill Direct Carpets in Cleveland, Tennessee.

floral squareJerry’s hobbies included gardening, traveling with Becky in their RV, cruising all over the world, photography, ancestry research, TN Vols football, fishing and cooking the best fried catfish.

Mrs. Spivey was born February 10, 1955 in Springfield to the late Thomas Russell and Willie Agnes Gainous Rippy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ricky Rippy.
